Hmm... should Dark Crescent have a horadric cube type item?

Where you could forge certain items together. I'm thinking of having an NPC that would do this. Instead of carrying around an item to forge items together you would just go to a certain NPC and give the items to it and you would get a forged item.

Wouldn't take too much to do, but do you think it would be worth it for this mod?

Hmm... It depends mainly on how useful the items that are being forged are. If they are mostly useless or not very useful crap, then, no, it isn't worth it, but if you combine two items to make, for example, a real kickass sword that enhances your fighting damage by a quite noticeable amount, then it's worth it.

Yes, the items will be worthwhile, even some not so useful things can be made, like in diablo II when you forge a certain amount of potions you get the next level of a potion.

Cube Recipes and runes were my favorite things on DII, So I guess it could be awsome if you made a cube with the ability to combine items, Or an Enchanter or some kind of Wizard that can do that. I think an NPC will be much better. And it should cost money or items.

It'll cost money AND items, in a sense, because the guy will charge you money to do it, and he'll take the items he needs from your inventory.:ggani:

Thieving bastard.

Yeah I think I'll script this eventually, it will be an addon priority, the engine itself needs to be completed first.

Or what if you were a blacksmith and had the "combine/forge" ability which (once you clicked the ability), a box would pop up asking you if you really want to combine the stuff in your inventory, and then it did it!

And your success chance would depend on your skill level.

BTW, are you making this game from scratch or something? How are you making a new engine? Are you just making brand new objects and models, as well as textures and soforth?

It's a mod, the engine is run in jass. New object and models, everything. Link to forums in my sig.

Having a set of tradeskills would be awesome and could be very good.

For instance, the alchemist tradeskill would enable you to make potions out of random materials and so on.

Tailoring perhaps to make light armors. Blacksmiths to make everything from swords to armor maybe.

And maybe an enchanter type that can add stats to items.

So I would say yes, but not in the fashion of a cube so much as perhaps a set of tradeskill like abilities or NPCs that would really really make things great IMO.

Plus its pretty easy to do now.

the problem with horradric cube lies in the fact that most people found transmuting to be it's novelty feature.

Its increased storage was definetly its plus side. As anything you forged there was always something better that dropped (I haven't played 1.10 beta where aparently you can now forge elite to super-elites but shh). Trasmuting was a nice effect, but wasn't worth the fee most of the time. 5 gems of level x? Please if i'm lucky hell will freeze over if I find these 5 gems. So you used it for that god awful quest and that was it.

As for item forging, in most RPGs being a blacksmith you should be rewarded for creating your item in a non combat sense.
Star wars galaxies (which is a terrible game) has a horrible battle system. However as a craftman if you forged a blaster and somebody buys it from you then whatever Xp they earn you get a small peice of. (He still gets full Xp)The higher level of craftmanship and the higher the quality of the weapon crafted the greater amount of Xp you get. Due to this system it became possible for a blacksmith to avoid combat completely, and yet still earn experience to keep plugging up his blacksmithing trait. In my opinion games where you can upgrade a non-combat skill via combat is just utterly retarded.

If you really want to put the nail in the head you'd make the finest items only craftable. The problem with war3 is that items are fixed, and can not be dynamically created. I'm still working on my dynamic item creation system (The "charmed and cursed items system") but the flaw with my system lies in the fact that you have to actually try to equip the weapon to even find out its name... and if I leave it dually random (Charm is random+Weapon is random) you can just buy enough charms until you get the best possible variant of the weapon, (Currently I have the weapons base 2 ability and name static the charm adds a random effect.)

Make NPCs that do that. I don't know how your item system works, but you have only 6 slots to display at one time and browsing around to find the cube is not the best thing. Make various NPCs, that do that for you (some for money, some after you finished a quest; I'm sure you have ideas).

yea, the cube in d2 was awesome, ah i remember the days of getting your gems and then upgrading them, brought so much joy:ggani: hehe

i like the idea of having to pay the person to do it for you, makes it seem more important
