Interesting Discovery

I have discovered something very interesting... You CAN create new heros based off normal units and here's how to do it:

First, you need to grab the unit editor i made here:
http://www.erie.net/~amgates/files/WC3UnitEditor.zip

then, create a custom unit (in my editor) using the unit you want as a base. Then give the unit the strength, agility, and intelligence, etc... just make sure to set everything that a hero has. now, if you import your unit into world edit, and play your map, it will be a hero. Hope this helps somebody.

here's an example map:

just wanted to say that this does work, and that its easier then changing the unit sounds in blink because it doesnt require modifying the actual file. the only thing bad is that it will overwrite all your old units, unless i am doing something wrong, so you would have to do it to a new map.
alot of the fields would have to be still modified in the normal map editor but this is the best way i've seen to make a new hero from any unit.

You could always export your current unit data, create your new hero, the re-import it.

If this thing doesn't cause any troubles, it's one of the most useful tools for me (along with Zepir's editor and the WE EB!).
You can make a new map, add the units, export them and import them to the new map alternatively, I guess.

i just fixed a wierd bug with the unit editor, so download the new version to avoid it.

I hope that bug is responsible for blowing up the unit data...
It basicly emptied half the values and cut most of the others. Plus it gave me an error message when changing a Proper Name.

EDIT:
Hm... now it's giving me error messages with flood values as content...

I just loaded a unit file saved with WEEBlink and while loading the file it spit out dozens and dozens of message windows with just one float per message. eg. "1.05", "0.00098002" etc. (don't have the exact values on my mind, but some were plainly too long to be any values set in Blink, while some looked like collision sizes or scaling values, probably selection circle sizes as well).
Screenshot wouldn't help as it's just a plain small alert (=only option: OK) window with a message consisting of a single float.
I don't think it's the WC3 version as it's a perfectly legal American Collector's Edition with the 1.01something patch.

ah... that... those were actually debug messages i used to fix the last problem... funny. i though i deleted those. anyway, they are gone now (really!).

http://www.erie.net/~amgates/files/WC3UnitEditor.zip

hope that's all the bugs... if not, tell me!

Yeah. The stats and everything showed up normal after those messages. Seems as if you've gotten rid of the major bugs now.

BTW why is Blizzard's editor so slow?

Good Job bg77

EDIT: Actually, I made 14 heroes and tried to import them, but it only imported 3 (4 times each) of them....bug?

EDIT #2: Solution. The problem was every time I clicked creat new custom unit, it started with CU00 and wouldn't go to CU01, CU02, and so on. I tried changing it in text, but that crashed WE. There is one solution that I found. Create a unit, save, open the same .w3u again and create another unit. (repeat)

Not that hard to do, annoying, but still, it's better than importing all of the sound files.

Should add a $i++ type of script sniplet there for the naming. Shouldn't be difficult.

EDIT:
HOLY ****ING ****! I am a Knight already??

Soon you'll be a palidin, im working on warcheif.

Anyway, this tool does prove useful, I downloaded it a few minutes ago, I have a fairly new computer so it didn't take to much time after I opened the program, any ways, good job.

I can't connect to the erie.net link. So disappointed.. I wanted to try out the editor. Is the site unavailable only temporarily?
