Hello, I'm pretty (very) new to this whole skinning thing and found myself with a bit of a problem. I had been pressing my way through the whole thing fairly well so far. I had gotten everything set up - skin edited, converted back from bmp to blp, ect - and then went imported my skin into the map. Huzzah, it worked! ... BUT I saw something really strange right off. I had edited Shandris's skin and looking at my edited skin on the model, she now had what, to all appearances, looked to be a green spike hanging down between her legs. That wasn't exsactly what I was looking to do and couldn't figure out what the heck I had changed in the skin to cause that effect. Okay, I figured, I can just go back, remove the skin and load up the old Shandris to see what is normally there. So i removed the skin and... nothing changed. So I tried just changing the file path on the unit itself. No change. So I tried reextracting Shandris's old skin, repeating everything I did with my custom one without changing it, and just importing it back into the map to override the custom one. No change. More over, now the custom skin isn't just showing up in this map, it's being used for every map. If I create a new map and place Shandris or anyone using her model, they have my custom skin! I didn't even think this was possiable! I since noticed that ALL units using the 'ranger' model have that weird crotch-spike thing. I'm gussing it's supposed to be part of their shirt or we're just not supposed to notice or something (or maybe I just somehow royally messed up my game that badly O_o), so I don't think there is really anything about my custom skin I can edit to make it go away, but that's kinda a non-issue now. Does anyone know how I managed to get my own skin as the norm for the entire game or how I can change it back/avoid this in th future? Any help would be appreciated. Greymane |

There is one thing that I can think of that I can be. Have you shut and restarted the World Editor since you put in the Shandris skin? If you haven't, the WE will automatically display the unit with the last loaded skin, regardless of whether you removed it from that map or have loaded a new one-of course this problem doesn't carry over into the game. Your problem sounds a bit more complicated than this though, but if you could provide a picture of the messed up units, I may be able to offer more assistance. |

Thanks for responding John. Yes, I have restarted the editor. It was one of the first things I tried after everything else failed to work. More over, I've since restarted my computer as a whole and there has been no change. The skin only seems to appear on a map if I've placed the unit there. I went into the Night Elf campaign to the level where the 'Shandris Ranger' unit appears and she had her old skin. Viewing and extracting the Shandris skin via the Wc3 Image Extractor II still produces the old one rather than the edit, so I know I didn't "really" change the default permanent manner, just somehow got it stuck in the editor. Unless I find a way to undo this, I'm gonna end up having to reinstall WC as a whole just to set the editor straight. It'll be a livable annoyance this once, but if I can I'd rather find a way to fix this problem without having to do that so that I won't have to uninstall WC every time I wanted to try to do a map with reskinned units. Here's my skin edit. ^_^ Laugh at it if you'd like, I won't be offended. I did the editing entirely in Jasc Paint Shop Pro, then later used the Warcraft 3 Viewer program to convert it. It took me forever to get it to finally work in the editor and even then I'm exactly sure what I changed at what point that made it finally stick, though I'm guessing that it was using the Warcraft3 Viewer to save it as a 32bit image, since Paint Shop Pro seemed unable to do that. |

Huh... for some reason the picture didn't load with the last message, let me try again. |

>_< Nnnngh! I'm not TRYING to spam, honest. I just hadn't realized the image exceeded the maximum file size limitations. If it doesn't work this time, I'll stop trying and just put it up on my old geocities account or something. |

Well if you save skins in your warcraft 3 folder (for example: C:\games\WarcraftIII\units\creeps\PandarenBrewmaster) you see them in every map you open... dno why.. but if you upload the map you dont upload the skins you have in your Warcraft directory so it doesnt matter.. |

i cant help you with why the skin will go to her in every game, but the spike thing, in my opinion, just looks like part of her shirt thing...if you ever get the normal skin back, check that without modding it. ![]() |

i know what it is. you somehow replaced the default shadris skin with your other skin into the MPQ. all you need to do to fix this is have someone send you the shandris skin, re-insert it into the war3.MPQ, replace the one that you put in there, and tada. good luck -flames' Quote:
you think? he might even have solved is problem by now.... and north blade, dont spam smileys. even if they're the awesomely wicked infernal roxor's |
