Ok, I modified the archer's skin (Textures\Ranger.blp) so that instead of having an overall purplish tint she has a greenish tint. Now, according to Warcraft 3 Viewer, both the archer portrait model and the archer model itself use this texture. So then why, when I import the skin into my map, is the archer green but the portrait still purple? It's like the portrait is still using the old skin. BTW... I did rename the imported texture pathfile to Textures\Ranger.blp, so it should just be overwriting the old skin. Can anyone give me some answers? |

Which potrait are you refferring to? The one at top left of screen for heroes (which shouldn't change) when you select the unit (which shouldn't change) or the potrait next to stats which moves which should change. |

I'm talking about the moving portrait. Ok, see in this attached picture I have her selected. It's kind of a small picture, but if you look closely at the in-game model her hair is tinted green (instead of purple) and actually her whole body is a slightly greenish tint (just like the original archer is a slightly purplish tint). This was achieved by exporting and converting Textures/Ranger.blp (as .TGA), editing it with PSP 6, changing the overall tint to green, converting it back to BLP, importing it into my map, and changing the pathfile name to "Textures/Ranger.blp." Obviously it is working for the in-game model, and according to warcraft III viewer, both "Units/NightElf/Archer.mdx" and "Units/NightElf/Archer_Portrait.mdx" use this skin, so WHY IS THE PORTRAIT STILL PURPLE?!?! |

maybe didn't use the portrait you wanted, but another.... maybe you chage via mdl editing the bitmap path to another.... maybe you didn't add the correct blp file.... |

I just don't know... maybe I will have to edit the model to get it to work... maybe Warcraft 3 Viewer is misreporting the skin and it actually uses a different skin like the Shandris one or something... maybe there's something special about the archer portrait in the engine or something that doesn't let me replace the skin... hmm... who knows |

For some reason TFT seems to include a new archer portrait with a different path for the skin (I don't see any differences between the models, so I have no idea why this is the case.) There is no new unit model. The TFT portrait has the path: units\NightElf\Archer\Ranger.blp It's the same skin as is used for the model. |

Hmm, Namothil beat me to it, but yes, there is a new archer skin..... BTW, It looks like you barely tweaked the skin color at all, and it would prolly look better if you made her more....green? I'm guessing she is supposed to be an orc archer or something... |

Aha! Thank you. You're right, in the war3x.mpq, there is a replacement model for only the archer portrait model (but not the archer) that uses "units/NightElf/Archer/Ranger.blp." Let's test this out... alright it works! Looks like there were a few seams where I kinda messed up with the color changing, but that can be easily fixed. Oh, BTW, the "greenish" tint is very faint, perhaps even more faint than the purplish tint the normal archer has. It's actually for Terra from Final Fantasy 6 (3 in N. America), in case you are familiar with that game. She looks normal except her hair is kind of a greenish tint, so this is just what I was going for. |
