What do you like the most? or would you like to see if well done? personaly I haven't played any good open RPGs but I know there are good ones to come, and I prefer the concept. Please take this poll, and maybe explain why you chose whichever of them, I am making an RPG, and haven't decided yet if it will be Open or not although the terrain suggests it will be. These are my thoughts: I voted for: Open RPG: -Lots of places to explore and discover -More possibilities, quests and cool things to do. -Bigger, in the sense as Open RPGs usualy have bigger towns, forests and places to explore. -Replayability |

Open RPGs are lame on Warcraft. It is basically a melee. You race for gold mines, build an army, and kill the other people... that's what i've seen anyways. I think that open RPGs should rather just be about developing your character and doing quest, becoming a criminal or etc instead of being able to build a base. Somthing along the lines of Morrowind is what I'm thinking of. an Open RPG where you could take your character to different maps and new levels would be sweet using that password loading system. Like say some maps would require you to load a hero of a certain level or else you'd be booted from the game or somthing along those lines. Not like Gauntlet though, I find that game to have little depth and it's too easily abusable. |

Open RPG, thats why i enjoy Legacies: TOTS, unfortunately its in beta and needs lots of work. Something like Legacies with cooler and many more quests, lots more heros etc would rock/. |

You are completely right. I don't like Open RPGs that are SO "open", you get the worse gameplay in the world. Morrowind is open but has limitations. If you do something like that, it roxx0rs :D |

hmmm 50/50, What I'm thinking of right now is a standard RPG with some Open RPG aspects, I'm using a very wide tileset, ie: I'm gonna have a a barrens/desert land, a lordearon type land, a Ashenval type land with a rain forest, and an undead land. This will allow you to explore alot, but there will still be a main quest, only, you will be required to do alot of sidequests and stuff to complete the main quest. For example, as the map is divided in continents, you will need a boat to travel, therefore you do sidequests and earn money to get a trip on it. So its gonna be open in the way you have several ways to do stuff, and theres isn't a PATH to follow, you can go which way you want, BUT there will be an end and a final quest and a story. how bout that? to Jiiwan: I don't really understand what you mean, where did you see an open RPG where you build a base? I'm talking of everquest type of rpg for example, or morrowind. DeSty |

Jiiwan is probably referring to "Open RPGs" like Sliver's... |

i agree 50/50 they both have good sides and bad sides. It depends on the player, some like open some like normal |

I vote for open, for the reasons everyone has given above. Also, because I have never played a "standard" war3 rpg that i didn't get bored with in 5 minutes. It's always kill some creeps and find x item or person. Rinse/repeat. That wasn't really fun to me. Even the best story in the world can't save poor gameplay. |

Open rpg's are great because they allow you alot more freedom in the world, especally if you make it wandering based instead of "you go to here or there, that's final". Legacies is meant to be multimap, otherwise a save system would just be a waste. The quests are, unfortunately, a little sparse for now, but that's just the first map, after we're done tweaking it we can go onto to greater things and hopefully move our focus more to fun gameplay instead of making everything work. More heroes will come, I hope, and new quests and features, but all changes have to be unanimous and lengthily argued, so new stuff comes slow, but I guess that's why it's still a beta after so many versions :( |

Hmm a decent open RPG be nice, like legacies RPG but without the damn camera (save hero features owns btw). Im working with a friend on such a thing, but i doubt it will get finished, its at about 25% right now. If you take over/help PM me. Got some good heroes and terrain, and weve got plenty of ideas 4 it... EDIT: hey fm_osiris werent you the guy that made legacies? |

I've been talking to Zotax (Who is planning and currently making an Open RPG) on what he should feature in the map. For now I prefer maps like legacies if I am to play an RPG at all. Usualy I don't. When an Open RPG, such as the "Quests Open RPG" from SC, is created, tested, bug-free and released, I will be the one playing it at least a couple of hours a day. (Probably more). Now, what I mean by that is, for one, LOTS of cities. Buyable cities. Upgrades (Yes, Upgrades. I want leveling of heros. No ****ing tomes. Some items.). LOTS of areas. Patroling and respawning troops. I also have a lagg-free system for 420x420 maps (which this über map would be). This system allows the patroling units to be spawned when you enter a certain area of range of the spawning place. There is a castle in next to all cities, where you can talk to the king about quests. There's lots of different units to fight, AND THEY MATCH THE LANDSCAPE/TERRAIN. Now a snowowl in the jungle.
