I got some sounds from Cox and they play etc in the MP3 player I have, but I tried importing them into the map editor and they get imported, but when i try to play them there they say 'does not seem to be a valid sound file'.

Also it suddenly hit me I dont know how to assemble a custom unit sound set!

What is the sampling rate of the sound? Make sure it's of the quality WC3 needs to play them.
And you did save it to MP3 properly? (Just one of my friends thinks he makes a bitmap a jpg by renaming it ... )

I'm fairly sure they're MP3s because they were sent to me as .mp3, and etc...but I don't know their sound quality. What program do I need to change the sound quality and ensure they're MP3s, and what quality level does WC3 need?

the sound quality is the same I've used for every character I've ever done ever..
soooooo..
I'm assuming it's more a translation thing on the programs part..
not sure how to fix that stuff

weird...know any programs I can grab to re-save them as the proper sound thingamjiggers?

also, what is the generally used file for un-zipping these things? I used a slightly weird one so that may have affected it...its one i got for opening Cookie's glow pack.

try..mp3towav. You can modify the quality and re encode the music or sounds or whatever...And then if you are doing sounds for a custom unit sound set, then you can use this program to encode the files to wav so you can insert them into the mpq.

Get Audacity or Cool Edit 2000 (*Do a google search for them*). Open the mp3's and go to File>Save As>Options. The bitrate and mono\stereo should be highlighted.
