Everyone is talking about HOW to make a map, but people should also be talking about actually finishing a map. I mean personal I must have about 25+ maps that are half completed. If you are like me you have a hard time keeping interest in the map you are creating or when you do “finish a map it is just not good enough (I know I sound like a perfectionist). But really I would like to know how people stay interested in their maps. I am sure there are a lot of great maps out there that just are not completed because the maker of the map just loses the pleasure of creating their map. If anyone has any tips post them here. I do have one hint, but I may be wrong. I think working with a group to complete a map will help you keep interest in the map. This is because you get constant feedback from your co-workers, but since I have never work with a group of people to complete a map I would not know. |

Word. It's exactly how my map folder is (a few completed but like 30+ not finished). My advice is to hurry an d make the map as quick as possible. Then after that, make sure you test it a million times to find all of the bugs. |

I am having the same problem. Now I am near to finish a map (the first one I have been ever so far). And I think what helped me a lot on finishing it are these points: First... I am making it together with my brother (as a team it works better) Second... I often start a map by making the terrain bit for bit and e.g. if I have a river or so I will add details till its perfect. At the end I have a small part of my map that looks really nice and a large part thats deserted. Thats often the time when I lose more and more interest in that map and start a new one doing the same mistake. I think I solved this well for me this time because I did not focused so much on every detail first and so I had the basic stuff for the whole map very fast. The Second Example also applies for triggers, units and so on. I think its important that you not lose yourself in details before you do not have all the basic stuff for the map. Third... For me it has been a problem if I am working on the map for a long time that I am losing interest in it. If I see that I lose interest I try to do something else (ofcourse you should always do something else beside mapping (eating,sleeping,... )). |
