Read this if you have trouble getting mp3 sounds to import into War3

I have had alot of problems with importing mp3 files, and I bet many of you have as well.

Sometimes I'll import a .mp3 file and when i tell it to use as sound or music, it will pop up in the sound variables with a length of 0.00, and when i try to play it, it will say (name).mp3 appears to be an invalid sound file.

War3 is a bitch about what it will let you import.

Heres a few things I have noticed that can cause these mp3s not to import right:
If you convert a .wav file to a .mp3 file using Goldwave or Audacity.
Sometimes you'll import an mp3 file you downloaded from the internet and the same problem will occur.

To fix these problems I use the Mp3 and Wav converter/normalizer found here: http://www.mp3convertors.com/
If you use this program be sure to download "Mp3&Wav Converter v1.09"
It doesn't work with v1.20, and it messes up the quality.

To fix your file, simply open the program, and click on Mp3 Norm. Select your file, and wait for it to convert.
(Note: Sometimes you will experience a loss of quality when you normalize a file. If this occurs, first convert the file to a .wav file and in Sound Recorder, change the Audio Format to: PCM 44.100 kHzm, 16 Bit, Stereo. Then convert your file to an mp3 and you should experience no loss in quality.)

Hey, had this problem, searched, found this thread. Downloaded the proggy you stated (v1.09), normalized... still no worky.

Basically 41 of my sound files (so far) show up as invalid in the Sound Editor. A greater number work fine. They're from 3 different VAs all of which have other files that work fine. At least one VA that I was able to talk to used Goldwave. In the Sound Editor, duration is 0:00:00 so timing in cines is impossible. What's weird is the sounds WORK in the cines. But with a duration of 0 the cine is sloppy as heck.

What else can I do? We've concluded that converting them back to wav works but that's a last ditch as it would increase the campaign size exponentially. 0_o

Chalk another one up to the Curse of Kadesh.

MP3's -isn't it the bit rate? I think they should be set to 128 kbps or something, but I'm not sure.

Every single file, both the ones that work and the ones that don't are at 128 bit rate. What's weird is it's random ones done by 3 different VAs even though most of the files by each of these VAs work fine. There's no rhyme nor reason to it.

I REALLY don't want to import these as WAV... that would mean tripling the size of the campaign at LEAST. :nono:

I've tried converting to WAV then back to MP3 with Adobe Audition and that didn't work. I'm grasping at straws here and really know squat about sound files.
