Skins on editing models

Ok, here's what I've done: I took the footman model, and removed everything EXCEPT the shield. The model is just a big, floating shield now.

The problem is this: When I got into the world editor, instead of having the texture of the shield, it now has the texture of his shoulder or boot, I'm not entirely sure which one. Doesn't even begin to look like a shield, though.

When I change the BLP or try to make a custom one that's just the shield alone, it turns out completely white. I'm certain that I've obviously missed a step here somewhere... but what?

Can anyone help me with this???

I'm guessing that while editting the model, you somehow changed the wrapping. That is why the shield doesn't show up in the correct spot.

Actually, I fixed the second problem I had here. But now I get the problem that when I export a custom model from 3DS Max, I can import it into the world editor just fine, with the skins working and everything, BUT, it will be completely flattened!! What am I doing wrong now? :-(

This sounds like a modeling question, you might get help on the Modelling forum.
