Skinning contest info - DEADLINE 11/oct/2003

The skinning contest model is completed, unwrapped and I have also completed all of the resources to help explain the uvmap. First is the rules.
You are only allowed to change the model to the extent that the appearance of a material is affected. This can include animated tverts, material editing etc.

There is 2 different skins, one for the weapons and one for the body. This was done because the weapons take up a significant amount of texture space and some contestants may only wish to use one weapon which would result in a great deal of wasted space. The resolution for both of these skins can be no more than 512x512.

The judges can not see any skin submissions before they are completed, if a judge knows who a skin belongs to he or she may be disqualified. Update: please submit skins to electromancer, you can email them to him directly at [email protected] He will submit the skins to the judges without information about who made them.

Also if you wish to skin this model but you do not want to enter the contest you are certainly welcome to do so, you may post the skins in the gallery if you wish as well. However keep in mind that if you change your mind after posting your skin in the gallery we may not accept it as a submission.
Because this is a somewhat challenging model to skin up to a month may be given to complete your submission.

I personally would recommend using TheProphet's warcraft 3 viewer to preview your skins in if you are not using some sort of 3d program. It loads much quicker than world edit and has a reload texture feature among a number of very useful features.

Here is the link to the whole pack of files,
http://www.wc3campaigns.com/citizens...ntestFiles.zip
this includes the model in various formats, the uvmap and some images to help explain it.
If you have any questions at all feel free to post them in this thread. If you find any spots on the uvmap that are particularly troublesome such as bad distortion please bring it to my attention with some explanation and an image of the problem area. I may fix the unwrapping and upload the fix.

Also there is 20 possible weapons configurations, I will make some versions of the model for these weapons configurations and upload them later, for now you can use the model with all of the weapons visible in it.

Good luck everyone.
OK, start skinning in 3...2...1...GO
;)

Here is some screen shots of the model. The screen shot of the weapons doesn't show the other two choices available, a whip and a long sword.

That is a very good question. For now just worry about your first skin. We will have to discuss this. Right now I'm leaning towards focusing on making a single very high quality skin but that's just what i'm thinking now, I'll let you know later what our decision is on this as well as where you will submit your skins.

Yes this model can be used in game. As mentioned in the ideas thread it has about the equivilent poly count of 3 demon hunters. So you'd probably only use this in an rpg or a cinematic as a main character.

Did you read the readme? It tells you what the texture path is for each mdx file. There are two mdxs and the differences are explained in the readme.

yes i did

Body texture path: BodySkin.blp

meaning the blp goes into the war3 main directory? tried that, didnt work. sorry im noob in all that is custom models

That would be correct if you are using the world editor to view your models, but in the case of the war3 viewer it uses the model as the point of reference. So the blps should be in the same directory as the mdx to use the war3 viewer with the current texture path.

Just skin the weapons you want and ignore the others. I understand not everyone wants to get into modeling so I'm going to be making a model for all of the different weapon combinations and I will put them up for download soon.

Why not putting them as animations (like a static stand but with the weapon set). It would save a lot of work.
