Someone has to come up with a way to better protect maps, as alot well know what happend to legicys could have been a complete disaster if DaBestOfDaBest whent thru with it, it is sooo ez to unprotect A map if you really want to. Some1 ought to look into making a better one (I know this might belong in the dev tools, u can move it if you want to) |

Is it really easy to break a protection of a map? I'm pretty inexperienced in protection, so I don't know. But if it is really easy, then I agree, someone (not me since I'm not very good at programming with weird filetypes) should make a good map protector...Even though I have no idea how they work...Perhaps Hunter, you can suggest a new way of protecting them, then someone with the knowledge can apply it? |

Im not sure how its currently done, or how its broken I just know that its very easy, some1 needs to find out a way so the protection senses being broken and kills the file, or deletes random triggers(if that can be done) |

Heh, It might be easy, but to the average b.neter, it can't be done. I've been with comps all my life but I still don't know how it's done. Im sure if I took time to look into it, I could. But just think of WHO will crack the maps. Noobs, immature little punks. Most of them don't know how to open a map. There are lots who do, but if they are mature enough to take time to learn how to, I think they are mature enough to not steal a map. Also, turn all the triggers into custom text and hide some triggers with game-text messages that say who the creator is and when they made the map. So even if they change the loading screen messages, the player will know who the real maker is because of the messages. For the people who know jass, to turn those messages into their name, I really hope they aren't so immature as to steal it. Most people who know jass aren't. . . And for the little percentage that do and will, after the cracking, after the jass scripting, then they will post your map on b.net with their name. Then after all that, be proud that someone with such skill ripped off YOUR map. He took the time and effort into cracking a good map, a quality map, and one that he called a good, popular map. So just be happy that people liked your map that much :) |

Lol, I guess thats one way to look at it.... |

If they did like the map or not does not give them the right to edit it in any way they want without you (the creators) concent. It's either a matter of stealing the map (Changing the credits, maybe small changes on the map to the best of knowledge to the stealer. Who of course isn't a professional map maker, because such does not do things like that) or a matter of taking terrain or system from the creator. Of course the creator might agree on this, but should be consulted before you make any of these things. Now, protecting your maps means that you do not want another Wintermaul. Even if they like your map enough so that they do want to edit it, it's really ****ed if someone suddenly releases another version of the maps, with new credits and editable. Regards Dead-Inside |

I didn't say it gave them the right to. Obviously, they shouldn't do it, but we can't help it in any form. And comes another question - Does DukeWintermaul regret his map, or does he take pride in how many td's have been based off of it? |

That's up to him, and I honestly don't care. His map wasn't as complex as it might seem to be. It was, however, the most wellmade TD map, and yet fun, out there, and that's why it hit off. Of course people wanted to modify it and I think the Duke was aware of this. So that's entierly up to him. That's not relevant to this thread. *I* don't want anyone to modify a map that I've made if I haven't given them "special permission" to modify it and I know what they're doing to it. I'd also like to keep my credits in it so that people know that I actually made it. If I'm hosting my new map for the first time, or maybe even the fifth, someone can steal the map, change credits, and rehost with his friend over all B.net servers for a couple of days, and thus it's not my map anymore. So, no, I would not take pride in having my map open source and having people making "Pokemaul" out of my map (Not even giving me credits for template nor any triggers they just modify). use blackdicks heavy locker. i think thats the best locker... it delets alot of stuff out of the map and makes it smaller yet locking the map. and works well |

I have a trigger that makes the map crash if somebody changed the author... Look at the Jass Vault! .... |

[glow=stregnth=2,color=green] All you guys have to do is add TONS, and I mean [size=huge]TONS[/size] of regions so it takes like an hour for it to load over WE. I've experienced this when trying to open some maps to view how their triggers were set up, but that happened, so I cntrl+alt+del'ed it, heh.[/glow] |

I don't think so, some computers just don't lag for it [Offtopic] How do you create those letters? |

[glow=stregnth=2,color=green] When you say come computers just dont lag for it, were you referring to me? Because try it, load a map that you are going to host over bnet, with a backup copy for you, and LOAD on the regions! It takes forever to load! or just make a trigger that makes the game/WE crash when you try and open it :D [/glow] |

You cant make a trigger that affects WE, otherwise what the **** is the point of protecters!? |

me personally dont like protectors, i only make open source stuff, but then again i havent made a full map, i feel everything should be open source, but that is because im more mature then alot of the people on b.net who just want there name on a really cool map. I personally would like to learn how other people do things to further improve my own skills, and whats the point in stealing a map, it doesnt make you any more popular. Well i said my lil paragraph on my view, later. ~Talila |
