Yet Another n00b question: Black Terrain

I can't seem to totally blacken out unexplored terrain, even after enabling the black mask in the initilization trigger.

I'm sure it's something obvious, and I hate to use up your time on this, but I've tried everything including (read: especially) kicking the snot out of my monitor.

have u tried to add the fade filter and then add the black mask ?

I hadn't, but I just did...so I just did and it didn't seem to have any effect.

The undiscovered terrain is dim, but you can still see where everything is. Is that normal for a new map?

Wtf, have you tried going to Scenario > Map Options, then Unchecking "Masked Areas are partially visible"? It always works for me.
