Which kind of RPG would you play?

Well, I'm kinda bored, and I wanna make a new RPG map in my spare time, but I was wondering, what kind of RPG map would you most likely play?

Also note that I'm thinking of making most things in this map random, such as the items that appear and the quests that you can do, maybe even the enemies that appear and the shops you can buy from too. I've already started planning it out fully, I'm jus not sure how exactly to make it.

There are allready that much rpgs planned and worked out until now. Well it would be better you team-up with someone! (Believe me; if you intent to make a well-designed rpg with map size 256x256 you will NEVER end it, even if you are currently bored!

If you want to spend your freetime with making a rpg; why don't you join my rpg-project? (Check up 'Marduk's Descendants' rpg-thread for informations if you are interested.)

I, personally, love mixed RPGs. Where it's basically an RPG, but there are parts in the map (main parts I mean) that are like puzzles, mazes, and stuff like that. I also love playing TBS/ATTBS maps. Though, I haven't played any completed ones yet. RPG's with vastly non-linear storylines are the best.

Pen²: Hmm, your RPG seems very fascinating, I might consider helping along with it once I get more information on it.

MysticGeneral: Yeah, I love RPGs with a little bit of everything on them, gives them a bit more unity.

If I continue with this RPG idea, I'm gonna try to make it was unique as possible. For example, tons of puzzles and mini-games, and strategic playing and teamwork will be required in order to beat it. Most things will be random, except for the heroes and vital things like that.

So far, I'm planning it kind of an Open RPG, but still closed, and mixed gameplay here and there, with strategy involved. For example, maybe each player will have their own base, then all the players can level up by themselves for a while, or maybe go to their ally bases and level up together, then, maybe once they reach level 10, they can class change again, then they can do co-operative quests and stuff, while still staying on the original idea... I'm still thinking about it.

Right now, if I continue it like that, I picture it'll be like... what a Zelda game would be like with an EXP system (Excluding AoL) in all those terms. But I'm still undecided, that's why I need your help and feedback to decide what I should do. :ggani:

I like RPG's like the one blizzard made, the orc campaign. What I want to see most is an open RPG using the program currently being developed that makes it possible to load and save characters, variables, quests and much more.

Yeah, that would be amazing.

I tried to do it already but it doesn't seem to work but with blizzard maps only. If you know a way to solve that problem please let the world know

Back to the RPGs topic, I think that an awesome RPG is the one with a whole lot of secrets including secret areas and items, alternative quests, well-done bosses (with interesting and very goodlooking sequences) and a huuuuuge map to explore taking advantage of at least three "tilesets" (A large woody mountain, a barrens desert and an icy forest, for example) That would be really awesome, plus the saving function... a whole new game.

If you want all that, you should play Diablo 2 ;) I would very much rather to play a progressing/tactical rpg, one that would actually allow you to control other units besides your hero. That kinda dampens the definition of RPG but still :ggani:

Singleplayer, Tactical.

Although I wonder if there ARE any...

i wasnt sure to vote for mp tactical or mp progressing, but i voted for progressing

the map shouldnt be just hack and slash and yawn like most maps are, they just arent fun
and rpgs with story, they shouldnt interrupt u every for a few minutes if everyone is off doing their own thing, that becomes quite annoying because u have this cutscene, and u want it to end so u can get back to what you were doing
and quests dont have to be: go kill a monster, come back, reward. they are allowed to have puzzles and things as well

edit: if making an open rpg, be sure to try and play the best open rpg(s) ever made first (fallout/fallout2) and try to make it at least a twentieth as good, because most of these open rpgs ive played definitely are not

Include an elevator puzzle like the Arthas and the elevators at the end of the single player campaign. That was the only part of the entire campaign that I found fun. If you could do that, I'll.... I dunno, kill you for being better than me lol. Nah, you'll get praised for sure. Puzzles like that are really fun.

Yes, I've played a lot of Open RPGs, and pretty much all of them suck, all it is is just killing, nothing unique... well I plan to change that.

I've decided I'm gonna make this RPG a little bit of everything, if I keep going on it. If you've ever played a Zelda game, or most other real RPGs, you'll know what I mean. It'll be Progressing through the most part, but the enemies will keep spawning so you can fight endlessly, and you can just keep doing quests until you're done them all (I'm planning around 30 quests each game, maybe 200 in total, completely random), and other things like that... and you WILL be able to complete it, but it'll take a very long time.

Also, I'm still thinking about the idea that everyone has their own base, and maybe there could be a team aspect, such as an FFA or 4v4 or other teams, or something like that, but I'm still undecided.

i'd play any map similar to fallout or final fantasy tactics until my cd melts.

...well, maybe not that long, but you get the idea. :D

Usually, a proggressive story is needed for an RPG (usually, not always), and the multiplayer aspect makes it more fun AND gives it longer life. Almost anything can be incorporated to it though:

Hack and slash places
Arena for PvP?
Random items and monsters
Optional quests (for a more "open" aspect)

And much more I imagine (I do that well...) I am also making an RPG, but I've already decided on the multiplayer, progressive story, way. Multiplayer can also be made to be singleplayer, considering you can set monster handicap depending on the number of players!

I look forward to seeing it, especially since the multiplayer aspect is winning in the polls (so far) :foot:
