Greetings, everyone! My name is DestintheValiant, and I come on behalf of a Total Conversion team currently working on modding StarCraft: Broodwar to the 80s anime classic Robotech (including Campaigns). I was referred here by a person on the GameFAQs message board, so please pardon me for just reposting what I already posted there, just for the sake of brevity. "Hey, all. Since in all probability you don't know, I am part of an online group right now working on a Robotech Total Conversion for StarCraft: Broodwar. However, although this project was started 2 years ago, production right now is nearly at a standstill. We recently obtained modelers who have put together a few units and structures for us (and would be happy to do more), but we still lack AIscripters and mapmakers. Also, as one of primary storywriters (of two, the other being the founder), I am constantly getting irritated at just how archaeic and usless StarCraft can be when it comes to certain things we want to do (civilian buildings, transformable units, etc.). So, tonight we all had a little chat and they finally decided to consider what I had been suggesting for over a year now: why not transfer mod work from StarCraft to WarCraft III? We have no idea if and when a StarCraft II might come out, and Blizzard would take 2-3 years on it if they announced it now. However, does The Frozen Throne have the capabilities to be Total Converted to a Sci-Fi anime game? We can already take all our existing models and transfer them to WC3, being 3D Max models. However, we'd need to alter the sounds, alter the resources, alter the music, chance tilesets, and completely screw with the building structure of each race (Terrans-REF, Protoss-Robotech Masters, Zerg-Invid). This includes such things as shifting the Druids of the Claw and Talon to the Humans so they can become the transformable Valkyrie and Alpha Fighters. The Ancient Protector would have to join the Humans as well to become the MAC II Monster Destroid. The Undead Obsidian Statue would become the Invid Shocktrooper, an attacking unit capable of morphing into an Enforcer or Royal Command Battloid, both attacking units. My question right now is both simple and complex: can this be done with the tools available right now (or are currently in development)? Thanks. Cheap Link to our model gallery- http://pub66.ezboard.com/fskullsquad...icID=495.topic" Another problem lies with certain structures and spells. For instance, we would probably want the Humans to have the Ancient Protector to become the MAC II Monster Destroid. However, in order to do that, we would have to change how the structure is actually built. Also, in WC3 of course none of the structures currently fly (although the Night Elf Structures can uproot and walk), so is it possible to enable human structures to do that (basically changing what uprooting does)? I also haven't found a program online that can modify tilesets, and we'd need to do just that to get the "Space" and "Installation" tilesets we would need in WC3. Finally, can spells like Burrow be lifted from unit to unit, or are they exclusive to the Crypt Fiends and Crypt Lord Beetles (like the Siege mode of the StarCraft Siege Tank). Thank you for any help you can provide. We would really appreciate any information on tools we'd need to use, where to begin ,etc. We would, of course, prefer to work with a possible SC2 on this, but you know Blizzard...even if they announced the game today it would be 2-3 years before it was even released, yet alone mod tools developed. We just can't wait for them. |

well to answer your question, yes it is possible, most of the stuff uwnat can be done wit hsimpel spell editign or jus tsome jass( war3's scripting language) also the model importing/exporing is near perfect so id say go ahead and go for it |

Just about anything is possible with TFT world editor, as long as you know what you're doing. |

Here are problems: In starcraft you can create new unit artwork with 3dsmax while with warcraft 3 there is no _fully_ working way to get new animated models into the game. For new stuff you have 3 options. You can tweak vertices and change textures of existing blizzard models, have unanimated new models, or just use dummy models from the original game (you can give them different RGB color tinting though) That said, warcraft 3 likes sci-fi models. It does come with a terran marine and an orc guy with a flamer though. In starcraft units can have turrets, subunits that attack targets. In warcraft units cant move and shoot at the same time, this might not be a problem though Here are benefits for Frozen THrone: Much more freedom with editing abilities, unit stats, maps, and triggers. easier to make creative modifications. You can modify abilities\spells, units, doodads, items, destructibles, and upgrades within blizzards World editor It's 3d, and all other benefits that come with the newer gameplay Mod will get more attention (once completed) for Wc3 ==== Regarding editing tilesets, you don't need a program like u did in SC, the terrain artwork is packed in MPQs as images. ==== In short, I reccomend making your mod for Unreal Tournament 2004 or Half-Life 2. Natural Selection is an excellent 3D RTS mod for half-life. www.natural-selection.org |
