Question about priority

Okay what I wanna know is in a game with no melee ai script running, like in an AoS where units are just ordered to attack-move from region to region, does unit priority make a difference? It doesn't seem to.... In my map the heros all have 12 priority, and yet when they engage a unit, the unit will either ignore them... Or if they DO start to attack them, if another unit comes along they'll switch targets, and I can't seem to understand why...

I thought maybe it had something to do with priority, so I jacked it way up, and they still act the same...

Coul it be the actual unit the attacking units are based off of? Like maybe certain ones treat heros differently than others?

I do know that priority is used to determine who gets selected first when you select multiple units.

I also think that the higher the priority, the more the chances the comp will attack the higher priority units first. ex. I had my towers priority set to 0, heroes set to 5, spawned troops set to 12 and 11. The comp always seems to attack the spawned troops first, followed by the heroes, lastly the towers.

This can also also be altered by life, and who was attacked last. Priority, like behemoth said, usually matters more for targeting (hence a healer healing a hero first). Jsut think of healing wave, targeting the people with the lowest life, AFTER taking into account the priority of the units in question. As for your dillemma, that was because they were all the same priority, therefore attacking one of the heroes was no different than attacking another. You have to remember that the AI in wc3 could definitly use some cleaning up...

Good luck on your map! :foot:

My particular problem I straightened out. I ran the ai.map ai for each comp controlled player, and then I set their aquisition range to their defaults (I had it too high)... That seemed to be the key, the aquisition. Now they pick heros and regular units both for potential targets. :)

I would still like to know the actual mechanics of it all though... for future reference. :)
