Guest | I was wondering how I "un-protect" protected maps. It bothering me because there are some great maps out there but some of them have a little bug here and there, or some of them are just fun to play around with - but they are protected! So I would like to hear how to "un-protect" these maps, and actually also how to "protect" the maps. If you don't really get what I am saying I can tell it is the issue when you open a map in the World Editor and it says "Unable to load xxx.w3m file" (or something like that). Thanks in advance. - Kris (Nothing is impossible for those who have a great amount money and great amount of time.) |

What's the purpose of protecting maps? :) What do you think? Well, it's not really easy to unprotect a map. There are several ways depending what you need but I'll not teach you how and I hope nobody will. For me, the purpose of protecting maps is to not allow people to edit maps because a few people just change author names to get credit for a work they didn't do. If one explain how to unprotect a map, then it's the anarchy again! :-/ I just suggest people should use watermark only to "protect" their maps so that people can fix stuff and learn from others map. And the original author name is protected by the watermark (that is really really hard to remove and will be even harder soon). If they want to let people learn triggers but not modify their map, then a "read-only" protection would be enought. It's not available yet but it'll be soon. Protection against the WE should be only used by people who really don't want to share knowledge (I don't really like them but that's the way things are) and it could also be used with "big" maps to reduce their file size (not with my editor in this case but with weaaddar's protector). |

Guest | Yeah I see and I get your point. It's just so that I for example LOVE the Arkguil tower defence but I hate the terrain. I would like to make a version where I just change the terrain and leave everything as it was. If you think you could tell me how to unprotect maps, please tell me. Thanks. - KrisP (I don't steal peoples work.) |

No offence, but this is the kind of attitude towards maps that MAKES people want to protect them. |

Guest | Arkguil's maps (at least up till 3.11) weren't protected. I spoke to Arkguil himself about this, but after I mentioned that people were just exploiting it and cheating, he may have protected v.12. |

Guest | hmm i have a idea but i dunno if its possible for the normalWE , they should have the password protection for 3type 1) full access to map 2) export access ( export unit setting , trigger etc) 3) read-only access (onli can read) if this is posssible , you can spread the map around, and people assk you to teach them trigger , you dont have much hard times =) |
