LOTR Campaign/Mod

Hello everyone, I've come to announce that I am constructing a LOTR campaign/mod for WCIII. It will include voice acting, custom models/skins, music from the movie, and cinematics (maybe). I have already downloaded a good sum of music, and looking from some tutorials on working with models from WCIII, and a importer/exporter for the model type from WCIII for 3dSmax.

I have started exploring the editor also, and I'm quite surprised how much more complex it is, compared to the Starcraft editor; so far I planed on this being a solo project, but I must admit that I need some help.

If anyone is willing to help, then please do, PLEASE.

Thanks! :D

Well I could help. Sounds like a good project, but REALLY big if you plan for the whole storyline. This would be a five or six map rpg campaign. It could be done though, but you might need some people for custom graphics which I am not to familar with. Sounds might be easier but im not sure. I am OK at triggers and mapping and have a handle on some cinimatics. So tell me whats up if you are making it.

Id be willing to help, iv talked to many people on helping with there project and after a day or so they have somthing come up, so if your serious about making this i am willing to help. I would be very impressed if you were thinking of the whole story line, but i think it would take more than 5 to 6 maps.

My email is [email protected] thanks.

If he gets back to us that would be great. But in the mean time, Klintel check this. There is a file attached that is a new map of mine. I just started throwing it together last night. Its a single palyer, but I like the option at the start.

Check it out. I want to put together another map, multiplayer that you can choose your spells.

The storyline wuold go something like this.

Your group is hired to knock of this guy in town.
(There is a big town)
You can get hired for other jobs (optional quests)
I want to make a gambling game in one of the pubs.
3 or 4 heros to choose from
1. Musketman hero
2. Melee Hero
3. Spellcaster Hero
(maybe) 4. Summoner Hero

I was thinking of doing it myself but a few more people might help the ideas develop.

PS plz dont rip off choosing triggers. It is not easy when there is no add- Hero ability. I had to take the long route.:(

BTW You have to go down to the bottom of the map to start. sry.

You have no idea how happy I am that someone actually offered to help! Anyway I am serious about this project, but afraid that I will not be able to go so fast with it, what with school and all. So I'm going to need some people who are equally serious, with some time to spare.

I plan on dividing it into 3 Sub-Campaigns: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. In each sub-campaign there will be anyware from 6-10 maps.

I'm thinking about doing the game from either the movie storyline, or a shortened version by me, since the book is so vast it'll be hard to cover everything in a game, without overwhelming both ourselves and the audience. I can make models, I have experience with 3dsMax, but need someone to do the skinning. I also need someone really good at cinematics, ‘couse I have a lot of ideas for it :).

If any of you have AIM my handel is Inteliguy57, my MSN Messenger is [email protected], my ICQ is 136826709, and my Yahoo is Jk2_models. And my e-mail is [email protected].

I wouldn't mind working with you, Ansible. I've been developing my own Lord of the Rings Mod now for the past few weeks. It's more of a unit conversion than anything, although I've got a half-arsed Moria map and a pretty decent Isengard and Helm's Deep map that I'm working on.

I would love to have custom models and skins to work with, because there's only so much you can do with the existing ones. For example: the Rohirrim would look infinitely better with blond hair and beards, and a spear + shield instead of a sword and lance. Could do with some more Tolkienish orcs as well, since the Warcraft ones are way too cartoonish. And green. It would be awesome to have some orcs with a white hand on their shields for the Isengarders. :)

I've a mind to pursue a Minas Tirith vs Minas Morgul map next, and after that...I was thinking about going to a more RPG'ish feel, since what I'm doing now is more RTS than RPG.

Starting out with a Three is Company map (isn't that the chapter that started the whole adventure? where Frodo and company set out from Hobbitton?) would be cool. Players 1-4 could be the hobbits. Players 5-7 could each control 3 Nazgul. Could have a player for a rescuable Aragorn in Bree. Maybe another player for Glorfindel.

But I am most definitely NOT following the movie. When I saw Arwen pull a knife on Aragorn, I almost threw up. And it all went downhill from there. Tolkien is probably turning in his grave. Cutting I can live with. Altering things is where they cross the line. Then it's no longer Tolkien, but someone's rendition. Well, I'm a Tolkien fan. I accept no substitutes!!

The books all the way.

Anyway, Fellowship Chapter could have map with the Hobbits getting to Bree including a possible jaunt through the Old Wood, encountering Old Man Willow, Tom Bombadil and Goldberry, and the Barrow Downs and possible need for rescue by Bombadil, all scripted and stuff to match the books. But they don't HAVE to go that way, oh no. That's the really cool thing. What if they want to swing way down south? Or north? The map can be up to 480x480 so there're lots of possibilites. And I plan on making the maps as close as possible to the books. I've got lots of pics I've scanned/downloaded so there's nothing to prevent me from getting downright accurate here. Heh.

After Bree we could have a map with them trying to get to Rivendell. Would include area around Bree, Weathertop, and the last bridge.

From Rivendell the next map would take them to the West Gate, with the finale being the fellowship gaining entrance to the mines.

But you know, it may be extremely cool to make alternate paths. Say they wanted to try and swing south through the Gap of Rohan? Or maybe take the way Bilbo and company originally took over the Misty Mountains, infested with goblins?

Dunno'. I'm long past the realm of concrete design and into dream land here, but still.

Right now I'm still working on my Isengard v Helm's Deep Melee map, and the unit mod. I've got Rohirrim Workers, Spearmen, Lancers, Marshals, and Lords, as well as Orc Workers, Warriors, Hunters (spears), Overseers (raiders), Lords (Thrall), and wolves and wargs. It's a 4v4 map, where each side attempts to build their existing bases and forces and destroy the other side. We've had 6 or so play tests so far with varying results. There have been tests where we've had screens full of orcs rampaging through the gates of Helm's Deep, and our last game this morning had screens full of Rohirrim spearmen, Lancers and Lords sacking Isengard. No ents yet, but they should be in soon.

Ok, that's enough from me. Look forward to hearing from you.

Take care.

Hello everyone, I know some of you may be wondering if this project is dead or not, well its NOT! Heaven and I, (can't get in touch with triknight or Kintel) have been discussing the Campaign, and have devised a few ideas for the first few maps.

Begging:
Gandalf returns from his search for information on the ring and briefs Frodo on his mission. You gain control of Frodo and Sam and make your way out of Hobbiton. Finally you meet up with Merry and Pippin, and then you have to make your way to Bree, avoiding the Nazgul and other obstacles that get in your way.

I am not going into detail here, so a lot is going to happen in the first map, besides what I just told you. We are thinking about doing Bilbo's party cinematic, to give those select few who haven't read the book on what’s going on.

There will also be an opening cinematic on the War of the Ring.

Well that’s all for now, we will be starting the first Chapter as soon as I can get in touch with triknight and Kintel.

*There are still spots open for those who want to help with the project, just e-mail me at [email protected]*

Ok, here is a little update on the project:

Anyway I plan on starting on the models soon, first the Hobbit Hole, next some doodads for Hobbiton. Then I will start on Frodo, Sam, Pippin, and Merry.

We have come to a problem thou, we need a new tileset, for the inside of a Hobbit Hole, I'm not sure if Klintel can do it, because I haven't seen him on, but will try to get in touch with him this weekend. I have got in touch with Triknight and discussed the campaign a bit.

I will be starting on a site soon, and will have it up hopefully by this weekends end.

I hope you all await anxiously for some screens of the models, maps or the game begging played it self, but don't fret, we will have some soon.

**EDIT***

Oh, and if anyone edits/creates models with 3dsmax for WCIII, check this out plz : A Couple of Questions About Custom Models

Will the hobbit holes be player created (will they be houses that a player creates) or will they be doodads?
