Gmax Help

I have Gmax. I need help. Ive figured out most of the modelling stuff, but I cant figure out how to skin. I can apply a texture, which I guess would work, but Ive got another problem. I finally found some script called DEX that will let me export. I got it to export fine to an MDL, then converted it to and MDX and tried to load it and it was invisible. Im guessing this has something to do with the textures. So here's basically my problems:

-How do you get the layout to make a skin for a model?
-How do you actually put it on it?
-How do you export it with DEX through the listener with a skin or any sort of texture on it?
-And have I done something wrong that I don't know about?

Someone should put a Gmax tutorial for Wc3 somewhere.

I just started messing with modelling and gmax, so keep that bit in mind.

First, the "invisible" model is a path problem, most likely. Before you convert the mdl to mdx you need to do some minor editing to set the correct path. Find this info in a tutorial, I don't have it at hand.

Also, when you load the model into the importer you need to change the path names. Find this info in a tutorial or download one of cookie's models and read his instructions.

The last possibility is you screwed up some of the skin channels.

Where did you find this DEX program, obviously I need to get it.

Yes, gmax info is spread all over the web and few here either know the answers or seem to have the time to give them.

Now I am off to find out how/if .max files can be imported in gmax. This is haunting me.

I'm working on amodelling tutorial for GMax users. It will be posted at the MOMM clan's forum http://forum.momm.seiken.co.uk/ in a few days or so.
