A Tricky Spell (At least for me it is)

Ok, now i'm reasonably familiar with trigger enhancing spells so feel free to go all technical on me, but this one has me stumped.

A channel spell that summons units every X amount of time, when the spell is broken the units stop summoning, the units also last forever.

Now i'm certain theres a way i can do this, i can make it do what i want, but its very clunky and sometimes screws up completly, if anyone can come up with a fancy way to do this, i would be very very grateful.

The spell has 2 levels btw.

You're right, that does sound tricky. Hm..

Naturally, no in-game spell will be able to help you with that.. so you should probably use triggers to help you out.

Just off of my head...

Spell 'Summon Horde', based off of Channel.

Skill 1
-Event-Hero Learns Skill 'Summon Horde'
-Condition-Integer Horde = 0
-Action-Set Horde = 1

Skill 2
-Event-Hero Learns Skill 'Summon Horde'
-Condition-Integer Horde = 1
-Action-Set Horde = 2

(This is to detect spell level, since I don't think there are Conditions to do so. If Tomes of Retraining are in the map, add a trigger to set it to 0)

Horde
-Event-Hero Begins Channeling Spell
-Condition-Spell = 'Summon Horde'
-Action-Set Summon = 1
-Action-Set Channeler = Channeling Hero

HordeOff
-Event-Hero Stops Channeling Spell
-Condition-Spell = 'Summon Horde'
-Action-Set Summon = 0

Summon 1
-Event-Every 5 seconds
-Condition-Integer Summon = 1
-Condition-Integer Horde = 1
-Event-Create unit Grunt for owner of 'Channeling Hero' at location of 'Channeling Hero'

Summon 2
-Event-Every 5 seconds
-Condition-Integer Summon = 1
-Condition-Integer Horde = 2
-Event-Create unit Raider for owner of 'Channeling Hero' at location of 'Channeling Hero'


Uhm, naturally, tweak to your heart's content. Also, it'd probably be good to add in a ton of 'text' triggers so if it does go wrong you can identify which part it messed up.

And, uh, it would get a little complicated if more than one hero possesses this ability, so if there are copies make sure they count as different spells and just clone triggers/variables

You must convert the "learns spell" trigger to JASS, and then change the 4 letter code for the spell you used in GUI(as you can't have custom abilities as values for that comparison), see the 4 letter code of your ability in ability editor(ctrl + d).
You can then just increment the level variable by 1 instead of having 2 triggers.

Also, in the "unit stops channeling", it's wise to add "finishes channeling" as another event too.

Use rain of chaos with 999999 duration, it will have the same effect (Pick water element instead of inferno and change the duration to 0 - unlimited, and the unit to any unit you want).

i would do what sathori said. i woulda typed it all out but he already did so if i was in your postion that is how i would have done it. and like he said you can tweak it all you want to make it more like what you want but he has the right idea.

i asked a friend this morning about it, and he basicly said similar things to all of you, hes been quite helpful and has solved the problem, thanks anyway to all of you, and yes i needed to use JASS.

I hate it when map makers makes useless triggers. And uselss JASS.

nah, cause it summons 5 different types of units, so your variation dosnt work. Also i wanted certain effects on the hero while he was summoning that can only be created by using triggers.

So use rain of chaos in combination with Dark portal - it allows you multiple summons.
And if the special effects are really impossible in this way, just add them through triggers.

it also isnt the style of spell i want, i want a spell that upon clicking, instantly starts channeling, not gives a target area. And Rain of Chaos stuns the enemy, even if u set it to 0, trust me on this one, i have tryed it. The Special Effects are those of Big Bad Voodoo for the caster, the only way to make those effects that i am aware of without using .mdl editing is to base the spell off it.

You're wrong twice (You can change caster graphics and the stun comes from the infernal you're not even using infernals).

And you can just trigger - unit is issuing an order with no target
create 1 dummy
order dummy to cast rain of chaos in position of unit.

But nvm, you already did your spell.

Dyne, i tryed it with Rain of Chaos, it still stuns, and if you use water elemental the summoned units take damage O_o.

And the Big Bad Voodoo caster effects can only be gotten by using the spell (as far as i know)
