FACT 1: Blizzard maps have a 260-byte footer at the end of the map, its header is "NGIS", followed by 256 bytes of authenticity data. FACT 2: When you open a Blizzard map then saving it immediately without making any changes, the NGIS footer is removed. FACT 3: The NGIS data is removed when you save it with WE, even if the NGIS authenticity data is incorrect. IDEA: A map protector can put authenticity data made with a custom algorithm into the 256-byte space. Before the map is protected, the author should put an URL of an authenticity verifier program into the map. The program checkes the authenticity data, if it's correct, it says "Original map". When someone modifies the map, the program will say "WARNING: Modified map" |

Its a good idea. I'll try to do that in my up-coming map-locker. (I want to make one myself as I don't trust anyone but ME!) |
