I converted a blp to a tga and edited it. Then i converted it back to a blp. How do i put it on the model now?

New question:I did all that but how do i get a mdx file with my skin. I have the blp which works for the interface icon but what about the actual model? how do i get my skin to actually go onto the model?

Use the import manager to import it over the old skin. That is, import it and then change the path to that of the old skin.
You'll need to save, close the editor, and reopen the editor for it to show up.

Inside the mdl and mdx file, there is a path telling it where in the map or mpq to look for its skin. If you use the path it looks for to name your edited skin, it will but 'put' on the model. There is nothing you need to do to put it on.
If you wish to use your own path, you will need to convert to mdx to an mdl, change the path, and convert it back.

Theres a really good and simple tutorial for doing this somewhere on the website but I can't remember where it is, so ill try to tell you as best as I can remember.

1) Get yobgul's converter (off this website)
2) Extract the .mdx file of the model you want from the .mpq file its in
3) Use yobgul's converter to turn the .mdx into a .mdl
4) Open the .mdl in notepad
5) Scroll down a little ways and you should see a directory (ie. textures/footman.blp)
6) Replace that with "yourfilesname.blp"
7) Save the .mdl file
8) Use yobgul's converter to turn the new .mdl into a .mdx
9) Use the import manager to import both the new .mdx file and your .blp file into your map (make sure both the .mdx and .blp are in the exact same directory.

Thats always worked for me. Now of course you only need to use this method if you still want to use the original texture. For example, say you want to use the footman model for your own skin, but you still want to have a regular footman in your map.
