Heres my very first attempt at a real looking cliff wall. Im still a very noob map editor and this in my first map so I need a little help on the terrain. What can I add to make the wall look better?

Edit: Ok tga is showing up, let me convert it to a jpg.

Already looks better then alot of them that I have seen.....

But for realism's sake, dont make the edge of the cliff the same all the way around, raise some of the edges, and lower some as well. But it looks good.

Yeah I was thinking of doing that but I havnt really tested it to see if the sight range will reach the top since then unit will never go up there. Im thinking of just putting site blockers near the top so you never really see the top edge.

That would work well too... as long as there are no flying units on the map.

Two words - smoothing tool.

Don't make it a 90 degree angle, make it more real. Set it to the biggest area and click on the edge 3-4 times.

I agree with Ekkruker, MUCH better. Your waterfall.. did you lower the doodad? or does it look like the water goes UP then down over the cliff...

Ok the waterfall might not look right but I didnt spend all that much time on it and it seems to look fine from the normal camera view. Ill play with it a little more and see if I can fix it.

FIX it?! Actually, I rather like the effect of the leaping water myself. It's one of the things that adds character to the scene. Overall a VERY nice cliff, quite believable and very professional-looking.

Don't lower the Waterfall, it looks fine. Raise the sides around it a bit instead.

Did everyone forget how to read? I didn't TELL him to lower it, I ASKED him if he did.

From the point of view he has there, it looks fine, but He didn't post an IN GAME SS where the camera angle would be different, that is why I asked.

Peace, peace. No offense meant to you, AllPainful. :gsmile: I just wanted to give my two cents, reacting to his belief it needed fixing somehow, because I like it how it is. I think it adds a sense of depth to the river on top of the cliff. But I realize your comment was just a question. :)

Very nice, But me also a newb at editing...how do you create those cliffs......My first guess is just creating hills and useing the plateau, smooth and noise tools Then just put a rock texture on it right? Tell me if i'm on the right track.
