Im a RA2 modder and id like to mod WC3.

What is the basic way of modding WC3 ?

eg. in RA2 you edited a rules file (text, containing all unit attribute info. like speed, health) and the art (unit graphics and stuff), then you put your edited files in a "*.mix" file (like WC3 uses "*.mpq"'s), you then put this mix in your game folder and ran the game.

Could someone give me a quick run down of how to edit WC3, like i did above.

Well, I'm a former C+C modder myself, so I know what you're talking about. I hanged around with Olaf van der Spek, I'm sure you've heard of him.

This game has 3d models instead of Voxels, and if you were around before my friends Will and Haydn made the voxel converter, that is were we are in adding in new 3d graphics.

The rules.ini files and it's breathern are now .skl files openable with MS Excell. Also, you change most of the units settings with WorldEdit.

You import all this stuff into your map or War3Patch.mpq. Sadly, you cannot add new MPQs (as far as I know) like in C&C.

Warcraft 3's version of XCC Mixer MPQ View and XCC Mix Editor is MPQ2k.

That about covers it for a comparison, look at the site for other details on how do stuff, or ask more specific questions.

Thanks.

specific question:
How would i edit a units range ?
How do i edit a units art ?
How do i add a new unit ?

Those 3 questions should answer a 1000 sub-questions.

Range: With WorldEditor
Art: With WorldEditor
New Unit: With WorldEditor

Just find the unit editor, I believe you can press F7 to open it.
