this is a teaser map from my forthcoming lotr campaign this map was originally designed as a sectret reward map i was going to include in at the end of the second installment of the campaign its called Gandalf vs the Balrog, so dont moan that its short as its not a full level really just a mini boss level but its the only finished map i have that uses soundfiles from the map insted of the campaign editor

also because the map was so big i have had to remove the custom music to post it here but it will be included on all maps when the full campaign is released

hope you like

Well, now that I've actually...like...played it, I think it sucks.

I know it's just a little dinky bonus map, and all, but you're also calling it a "teaser", and it doesn't tease me _at all_, nor does it spark any interest in me wanting to play the campaign.

IMO, if you wanted do a Gandolf vs. Balrog, you have to do it right. As in...first section of the battle on a narrow dark bridge with some cool camera movements to setup the Balrog as a badass. Destroy half the bridge so the Balrog goes flying down (in a cinematic, of course), then the rest of the bridge goes down sending Gandolf down after him.

Next stage of the battle in a shallow pool/lake. (My memory is hazy exactly where the battle goes). Then another stage on the side of a mountain, then finally on a real snowy peak.

Yes, it would take a whole hell of a lot of time, but why waste a moment of time if you're just going to put the two on an empty map hacking and slashing each other?

I don't mean to sound so harsh, but seriously now...is playing that map really something that excites YOU, as a player? Because if it doesn't, you have no right to expect it to excite others.

they willl battle on the bridge in the mines or moria map, i said this was the only map i could post because the rest of the maps use sound files from the campaign editor, also this camapign is based on the movies not the book so they fight the final battle how they do in the film, also this is only a secret level not a full campaign map if you dont like it thats up to you but the full campaign maps will have much mch more to do in them and the players who have tested my campaign so far really like it but you cant please everyone maybe you should make your own campaign based on the books?

Okay, I didn't get that this was only a small part of the Gandolf vs. Balrog fight.

I'd like to see some sort of variation, on account of 1v1 fights being boring, but I can't really think of anything special you could do off the top of my head.

Maybe something Gandolf could do that would "push" the Balrog in a certain direction every 10 seconds, and if you "push" him off the cliff then he'll fall to his death, or something to that effect.

It looks good but its just not fun running aroung a circle waiting for spell to reload and mana to regen while hes chasing you with mana burn. To beat him it would take over an hour of just running around that circle. Need a little more variation to battle strategy. I also think demon form looks more like the balrog from the movie then the model you used (forgot the name).

if you kill him he does fall off the cliff! also you can kill the balrog easy in 5 mins, its hard to make a 1v1 battle inteesting when in the film alll they did was fight till the death, if anyone has any good ideas im open to suggestions

Read before you automatically go off on isomeweed, the map was not made to be a teaser, it was made to be a bonus map in his campaign. It does show off the nice new gandalf skin. Any ways I think discodave was first off by being bitchy by calling it sucky and then adding a cocky comment like "Err...he disappears and lands on the side of the mountain." Its a good looking campaign so dont discourage him over one little bonus map.
