Well I did it. I thought up the first map for the Campaign. I think this map really seems more like an Introduction rather than the first map. So I am leting you all play it and tell me how u like it, comments and all.

Er, well.... my immediate concerns after half an hour playing are the utter lack of direction I feel and the very slow pace of levelling. The level starts with the single controllable character giving some orders to some villagers who then just stand there... leaving the player to wonder just what they are supposed to do to fulfill the mission he gave himself... But since that mission was to explore, I blindly began to wander around, figuring I could investigate the strange green dots that litter the map. I figured pretty soon I'd be given better direction and maybe a formal Quest for the log. After fighting every murloc on the length of a beach that stretched from end-to-end on the map and finding several things that LOOKED like ways over the large cliff but were not. I met a blue mage, but he just stood there. Finally I wandered back where I came from (to look at more of those green dots) and found that I could have just wandered around the end of the cliff at the beginning....

So, my primary concern is that it might be beneficial not to leave the player feeling so... lost? Or at least give them some kind of direction to explore in or not such an excessively large area to explore needlessly? Or at the very LEAST... put something besides dozens of murlocs in that huge, empty archipelago. And my second concern is related... in all that fighting, about a quarter of a map full of murlok, I gained not even a pittance of EXP. Each enemy I slew gave me a whole... 1 experience point. And at 200 XP to reach the next level, it would take more enemies than I think are on the map to level.

While we're at it... I presume the final version of this map will include a little more idea of who these people are or why any of this is happening... I gather from the intro that these are the people from that ship and that I'll be meeting that Arthas-alike soon enough. But I just thought I'd mention that a little more exposition might be appreciated.

Anyway, those are my initial comments and concerns. I wish you best of luck, though, as I think you can take this thing places with some work. The opening was nice (and the lag in it well-managed) so I'm keeping up hope that things will improve with time.

Oh, and what's up with the blue mage I can see on top of the cliff near the southern end of the map? I saw him

Hes suposted to be hideing...hmm I think i know why alot of things were wrong. it's becuase I used UMSWE and then used regular WE to do some other things..might have edited the cliffs and some triggers. DAMN. Ok well I will get looking into that thanks for the feedback. btw it is hard doing a campaign all by yourself. I would love some help.

I completely understand... would that I had the time to help you... or, heck, work on my own campaign. But right now I don't have time for either. :bgrun:

Anyway, I'm not sure which of the things I encountered might be world editor issues... really they seem more like design issues. But I could be wrong, I haven't explored UMSWE much. I COULD get into the forest on the cliffs with the topmost part of the map, but I had nothing to lead me there and since there were more green dots south than north, I went that way and wasted a lot of time. Ditto on the experience gaining... it just seems to be an issue in gameplay constants or somesuch.

Anyway, so long as you know how to fix whatever problems were caused by whatever, that's the important part. :D

Other comments: Er, I don't know why the board cut off my last post... not that there was much more to it, just that I said I saw him but could not reach him or make him react to me. That and I must say that all in all your stuff IS good. I especially loved the doodad work I was seeing in the forest area before I quit. And the little archipelago area was pretty neat too, if very large and empty except for murlocs. The terrain design down there was good, I just wish it had a better use is all. :gsmile:

Oh, and your camera bounds are a mite too close to the edge of the physical map... WC3 normally has some area you can't get to at the edge and an area that's blacked out beyond that to mark it... the reason being to avoid issues like the one you can see if you look closely at the water in a "shallow water" area on the bottom edge of the map.

Mine says the max is 1,048,576 bytes, or one true megabyte. (A "true" kilobyte is 1024 bytes, not 1000 bytes.) Your file must be just a hair over the limit. Sowwy. :( Have you tried using Heavy Locker's optimization on it? Not on your master copy, heavens no, but just on a copy to be put online? Because you're probably not too much over the limit, and that might shave off just enough, even in just "comment removing" mode. Just be careful, I can never keep track of which parts of HL are safe and which aren't right now.
