alphaing is using an alpha channel in photo shop to kind of like take away part of a skin. like in u were to alpha out the stomach of a unit, there would be a hole there when u put it on ur map. and if u were to alpha out a weapon, then it wouldn't be there in game, it would be invisable.

Just in case your wondering, some programs reckognize the alpha channel as the "masked" area. Therefore, if I were to remove the mask from the skin, the alpha'd areas would show up black.

Beneath the area(polygons) where team colors show up, there is another layer right underneath, which is plain, but colored to the current team color. Therefore, arthas's shoulderpalte would be red in game, only because there is an alpha channel (like a layer) erasing the first layer of poly's. But, with areas that have no team color area underneath, it erases it alltogether. For instance, the new revenant of the tides is an altered Revenant, with a few alpha'd areas to "erased" in the shield and cloths, creating the holed armor look.

It also allows people to modify the model, in a sense, only using the program they use to recolor or repaint the model.

I hope I covered this well enough? There must also be FAQ's on this somewhere.... :ggani:

Good luck :foot:

someone told me sometimes alphaing will lead to making the weapon into a team color or damaging the skin... Does alphaing work every time?

Alphaing 'works'. But that depends on what you mean by 'work'. If you mean to get rid of part of a unit, it will work ONLY if there is no team color there. If there is, it'll just show the team color.
