What do you like best when it comes to a race's gameplay?

I'm wondering on this for my new campaign. I'm trying to make a completely custom race, althought I'm not sure what to base it on. What would you want to see most in a custom race?

Just an idea:

- Extreamly powerful units
- Extreamly slow attacking units, average movement speeds
- Long build times
- High food costs
- Average resource costs
- Mostly melee siege damage attacks
- NO structial defences

Resulting in few VERY powerful units, but the player can't defend his base when he is attacking.

What's more, a good idea is to build a stealthy race (just like the draenei). They wouldn't be so powerful, but they would have the ability to stay hidden while moving and some nice skills (mind control rocks!!!).

A race like that would stand NO chance against rushes. Even the Orcs can survive a rush, and they are the most expensive race and have the longest construction times.

Remember he is making this for a campaign, and in most campaign missions you and your opponent(s) already have a good part of their base setup, along with a hero and a few units. Making it impossible to "rush", because they already have a base. Then again, as I said, it was just an idea....

I suppose in that scenario it would be acceptable, but still.........

It is a good idea, and it sounds great, but I don't think it would wrok that well.

I like novel abilities that offset weaknesses... say all organic units can autocast a weak "Heal" but don't have any natural HP regeneration... or a close-range fighter that can be switched into a seige weapon but at the cost of half its HP and it can't be switched back... or all units can fly but have no armor...

I guess I like imaginative solutions that still balance out, if they can be made to work. Simple enough? :Heh:
