Ok I've been working on making a map where your a wizard and you have to type in the spells to cast them. Well everying is fine but now I want to add animation to make it look cool. For my spell fireball I want to make it so that the unit you target has an explosion on it. I have no idea what to do, can someone help me?

This is what it looks like:

Fireball
Events
Player - Player 1 (Red) types a chat message containing fireball as An exact match
Conditions
(Item carried by Wizard 0000 <gen> of type Scoll of Fireball) Equal to Scoll of Fireball 0001 <gen>
Actions
Unit - Set life of (Random unit from (Units currently selected by Player 1 (Red))) to ((Life of (Random unit from (Units currently selected by Player 1 (Red)))) - 10.00)
Unit - Set mana of Wizard 0000 <gen> to ((Mana of Wizard 0000 <gen>) - 5.00)

first off you need some conditions to check if your wizard has 5 mana to use or else the spell will cancel. second you need a action that will set the life of the unit to 1 after he casts the fireball if he dies because if you kill him through triggers he will not give you gold or exp.

now to solve your problem. there is a little thing called create special effect. hopefully you have we unlimited if not you will be doing a lot of work just to create the explosion at the unit. with we unlimited there will be a trigger that says get unit's last issued order. just create an explosion at last issued order of triggering unit and you will be fine. if not you have to go here....

good luck.

p.s. your triggering is rather sloppy i would suggest adding variables to clean it up more. Not saying you suck just that i can tell you are rather new to map making. if you want i can teach you a couple things about variables and such if you don't undertsnad them yet.

For fireball you have to select a unit (your target) and then type in "Fireball" and it will take away 10 HP from that target and 5MP from you. I want to make it look like a real fireball so I need some sort of fire or explosion to happen on your target. I don't know how to play that kind of animation on a unit.

Where can I get World Edit Unlimited?

ah i see that means you don't really need to find the target just use what you were doing before and than go to special effects in the actions and find an explosion...not hard and cast it on unit selected.

here is a link directly to we unlimited. much better than blizzards editor. be careful tho you can only use thier triggers if you create the map with we unlimited and check the box to use thier triggers. if you just started your map i suggest remaking it. if not i know of a way around this but it's not easy.
here is the link

p.s. you don't need we unlimited to do what you are doing. i thought u did at first but i misunderstood. do the same thing as you were doing with fireball but instead of doing damage find the thing that says create special effect at unit. maybe its point and if it is than select postion of unit when you are selecting the point. if not than it will be on the unit automatically.

It's ok if I have to remake the map, It's not even really a map. I was just testing my idea to see if it would work. If you could show me how to use variables that would be really nice.

Oh also where can I find a good list of all the animations?

ok here is a quick lesson on them. very very easy thing i thought they were hard but i learned them within 5 mins. a variable is basically a way to store the name or number or info of anything in the game. first off open up your triggers and create a trigger for anything. than click on the part to edit something and look for a little button that says edit variables. open that up. now a list should come up with all your variables. which is prob none at all. now click the button at the top to create a variable. it looks like a little green x. you can also just hit crtl ~ n and it will make one auto for you. now name it. lets say this variable is bob. now the field below lets you choose the type of variable. pull down the list and you have many many choices. pick unit for this example. also if you want to do this faster once you type the name bob above just hit tab and it will select the lower field than hit u and it will pick unit for you. now push the ok button. there you just created a variable for a unit named bob. now lets set a unit as bob. make a trigger with the action that looks like this.(just add this under map initialization.) the trigger you make will be on the drop down menu like 6 or 7 lines down. don't change it from all because setting a variable does not have its own little subcategory.

action-
--set bob = now this part can be anything you want. last created unit. triggering unit. anything you want at all.

thats just an example. let me give you a real trigger with a real example.

event-
--unit begins casting an ability
condition-
--owner of triggering unit is equal to player 1 red
action-
--set bob equals triggering unit

there you have it. whenever a unit casts a spell that is owned by player one. they will become bob. easy way to keep track of things. than in another trigger you could have bob do something after he casts the spell.

event-
--a unit finshes casting an abilty
condition-
--triggering unit is equal to bob
action-
--play victory animation for bob

those are some very basic things you can do. experiment. learn. its very very easy.

answre to your other question. you can find all the animations you need right inside of the world editor. create a unit of the type you want to see animations for. select it than look at you previewer. over to the side under your minimap. over his head it says the animation he is using at the moment. should be stand. there is a little arrow thing to change his animations. just hit it and it scrolls through all of them.

Your taking the long way for a very simple thing. Just base a spell off of "Firebolt", change the stun time to 0, change the model to "Fireball" and set the damage to what you want.

but he doesn't want the spell like that person thing. i understand what you are saying i thought the same thing but he wants you to select the unit and type the spell. original idea but i don't know how many people would actually like to do that.
