FFT Summoner and Improved Lancer

I started the summoner from FFT he looks kinda plain I realize this but I don't know what else I can add yet maybe I'll get some feedback on that. And also I improved my lancer from before. I remade the shield making it look wooden and made "real" armor not just the patterns I used before. So tell me what you think...
Edit: whoops this is supposed to go in gallery sry...

At least add shadowing to the summoner's cape. At least...

The shield on the lancer is much better then the old one, but now he can use some lines for his chest. They can be formed out using Burn n' Dodge but you can also just draw them with a brush tool.

That lancer is nice, but that summoners cape and stick turns me off, try using mediv's staff instead of that big *** baseball bat he has now and give more detail to the cape with more designs to it or something

Thought... where's the 'gay' horn that all summoners seem to wear?

Well... I'm not that great yet with photoshop I'm just learning it all right now this is my first time using it so I don't know all the little tricks yet for shadowing and things like that. By the way the tutorials on this page are crappy and they don't really help that much just if you're about to tell me to look at one because I've seen them already and they are about as in depth as I could explain how to do something which doesn't quite help. I know the cape is plain but frankly there's no other way I could do it but all green with gold around the edges thats the FFT summoner's cape. If I wanted I could add some cool design but it wouldn't be for FFT anymore. And yes I know the staff sucks (got it from Campaign Creations which most things there aren't all that great) but I wanted to make my own staff from the game like one of those hook-like ones that loop around at the end for him but I haven't gotten into gmax yet too much. Seems more complicated... Then after I do that I'll make the little red cone thingy that comes out his head (unless someone could do this for me as well as the staff if you're bored...). And yea the last thing, I redid the lancer even though someone said it looks the same well the shield is very different and the armor I actually "made" on my own and I got rid of the other pattern thing that I just slapped in there before. So that's that. Any other specific things I could do to shadow better or anything please tell me but telling me simply that I have to will not help because I already know (i'm not stupid) I just don't know exactly HOW to so please if you're going to criticize don't simply flame, also allow me to improve these are works in progress.

They both need to be shaded more then get better screenshots using wc3 viewer or the we. In-game shots look bad.

Well first of all, I know they need to be shaded better but I really wouldn't know where to start. So like I said, if you might have something more specific like what parts of what or possibly how to do it better otherwise simply telling me that they need to be shaded is entirely useless... I appreciate that you're trying to help but I can't really do anything with what I'm being told at the moment.
