I MADE A NEW SKIN..WHEN I IMPORT IT, I CAN'T USE IT AS A MODEL, I CAN ONLY USE IT AS A BUTTON, WHATS WRONG. (THIS MIGHT BE THE WRONG FORUM FOR THAT, IF YOU CAN PLEASE REDIRECT ME TO MY ANWSER THAT WOULD BE THANKFUL) |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is how it's done: You're going to need some tools: 1)MPQ Extractor 2)Yogbul's Converter Use the MPQ Extractor to extract the .mdx file of the unit your skin pertains to (footman skin, footman .mdx). Use Yogbul's Converter to turn the .mdx into .mdl. Open that .mdl file with any text program, preferably Notepad. Find the part that specifies what skin to use and replace it with the path to your imported skin. Now use Yogbul's Converter to turn that back into .mdx format. Import that into your map, and select it as your unit's model. It should use your skin if I explained it correctly and if you did it correctly. :D Good luck! Oh! You can find those tools in the Downloads Section of this site, and VERY IMPORTANT, when you import the modified .mdx file into your map, make sure that you give it a different name, otherwise the regular unit will also use your new skin (i.e. if you import the new .mdx file for the footman using the same name, the regular footman will also think it has to use your skin). I hope I didn't lose you there, but it is important that you know that. You can just add a letter or a number to the end of the name if you want; just make sure it's not the same as the original. Once again, good luck! :D |

Skins are set INSIDE the model, so you can't change a skin inside the game you have to modify a model to use the new skin, so to use a new skin you HAVE to have another model imported as well. But there is another way IF you want to change the skin of all units of a certain type, you can set the import path of the skin to where the normal path to a units skin is. |

I use Warcraft 3 image extactor and extracted the skin as a tga. file. I used photoshot to edit it, and used the image extractor to open the new skin. I save the new skin as a blp. file (bacuse that the blizzard thing{correct me if i'm wrong}), but when i upload it into a button, not a skin. |

Yeah, you uh...you kind of said that already. Maybe you think I'm the one who doesn't understand, but uh...you don't seem to understand that I used 10 good minutes of my time writing that answer for you, and you apparently didn't read it. That's the way to do it. It doesn't get any simpler than that. :nono: .blp's are placed onto many things, which include models (.mdx), buttons, etc. Ok, the skin is just that, the skin. Without a skeleton for that skin to be placed on, it's nothing but a coloful piece of paper. Now, read what I told you, please, and if you try it, following my instructions word-by-word and are unable to do, then be my guest and seek further help. :reallyang |

neither me or QuatreDan said you did it wrong, what you did was NOT do some steps than need taken. AFTER importing your new skin you must either: 1. do as QuatreDan suggested and modify a model to use the skin or 2. do as I suggested and change the path of the skin to the same as the path of an already existing skin I repeat you CANNOT change a skin of a model in the editor. |

But, if he uses your method, than he won't be able to use the original skin for the normal unit. What if he wants to use both the regular skin of a footman for the regular footman, and the modified one for a special footman? :bgrun: |
