Im interested in doing skinning, but at Staples Photoshop was a whopping $700!! Anyone know of a program that does the job just as good for a much much much cheaper cost.

Also can someone link me to the image extractor? I downloaded one but its a .rar?

total newbie :ggani:

To unzip a .Rar get WinAce, and you might be intrested in Paint Shop Pro. You need to get version 7 though, apparently there's some error in version 8 which will prevent you from skinning.

You can't get a trial of PaintShop Pro 7, they took it off of their site. What I would recommend is to download a trial of PaintShop Pro 8 and if you like it, buy PaintShop Pro 7 online or at a store. You can find the trial of PSP8 at Jasc's website

You can find a WinAce trial at their website

You can still get Paint Shop Pro 7 Trial at other sites, which unfortunently I don't have on-hand at the moment. I was able to get one with enough searching (This is of course while we're speaking on the legal means of obtaining it.)

Adobe has product tryouts on their site -- just download a 30 day demo of Photoshop 7. I'm told there are ways of extending the 30 days indefinately.

why buy paintshop pro 7 instead of 8?

Because for some reason, PSP8 doesn't work with skinning. You have to use PSP7.

This doesn't relate to skinning that much, but tools... Oh, well. Anyhow Photoshop is expensive, some download it off Kazaa, although i'm not necessarly advising that. I suggest buying it most Kazaa files these days are just viruses.

Also, if you want to edit the TGA's with the 7.0 ver, the link is here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloa...jsp?ftpID=1544

Some poeple find that Corel works the same, at only $50... (for a basic trial ver)

It includes everything, including a screen capture, mode support, every type of format you can think of, and much more. I'm sur eif you put "Corel" into asearch engine, you will find the site. Probably corel.com, but I'm not sure.

you can use corel photo paint, but i absolutely hate it. i would choose GIMP over photo paint, and GIMP is freeware and designed for unix!

EDIT: and the reason i don't like corel photopaint is that it's nearly impossible to deselect things.
