You have to be good at something, for example if you are moderator at map development you have to be capable of answering questions about map development, same goes for the modeling forums etc. |

Respected Members are usually ex-staff who contributed something special to the site and community during their time here. ~kharma |

Too many moderators... With that big of a list of mods, each forum has to have like 4 moderators. But they don't, what do they all moderate? |

I raised this issue on the "Do you think O/T should go away" forum, and I'm kinda curious about what the admin think of the idea - moderators should really contribute a bit more to the forums they administer. I'm largely active in the Map Development forum, and there's *8* moderators of that forum, yet I'm pretty sure I've never seen some of them post. Zachary_Shadow and Technetium are very handy to have around, and Draco's never shy about posting, and I'm not singling those three out as the ONLY people who post... but I'd argue that having people assigned to a forum should be encouragement to participate actively in it. Worst case scenario is the Artist's Discussion and Tips, which is nearly stagnant. The request forum's doing alright, but there's nobody around to answer any questions from people who'd like to get into model editing (myself included). This shouldn't be the sole responsiblity of moderators, but if they don't stimulate discussion, who will? Moving posts, shutting down spam threads, and generally policing this place are vital duties... but ultimately, a forum's only going to be as good as the ideas it generates. Comparing this site to the stagnant development forums at Campaign Creations or clueless n00b callers at warcraftiii.net, I'll take Wc3c any day... but I hope you'll agree that the embers could use stirred from time to time. Technetium's weekly mapping challenge is a good idea, but it's awwwwfully restrictive as to who's likely to participate. Encouraging open discussion and the sharing of idea improvement should be the hallmark of a modding site (as opposed to multiple competing teams zealously guarding ideas from each other) -- a few active contributers could really fire up the forges for everybody. |
