I started this last friday, but I wanted a genral concensious of the idea

Twin Kingdoms

The game is played in 3 repeating phases

Contruction/Traning Phase- this is where you buy defenders/ attackers and maybe repair gates and such.

Tactical Phase- This is where you place your defenders and plan your attack. Each attacker bought stands for 10 smaller units. You pick where your units will go, out of the 4(or possibly more) attack routes avalable.
Action Phase- This is where your plan takes action and each castle is sieged. Good intell will result in a well placed attack, where your primary rout is scarcly defended.

How does that sound?

this game sounds quite interesting. i voted 4 because from what i hear it seems like the action will have long pauses inbetween. creating dull moments. but when the action picks up it sounds great. sounds like a thinking man's game were you have to actually plan ahead rather than just hurry build and destroy. good luck keep me posted. and i hope ur gates start to work. lol

my Gates do work!

Buildings can be rotated (I know I didnt think they could either, maybe its just the gate modle tho) The gatesare built by a builder in a side section of the map then you type "-west, -east ect.. to place them on the gate spots

im working on the defense units first, Tell me if you guys like this, instead of making elite melee type units (IE Royal Gaurds, Knights) have a ton of HP I made them have tons of armor, witch to me is more realistic. also, all units have a 15% to do double dmg and a 35% to dodge attacks.

EXAMPLE
Royal Gaurds
Heath 50
Armor 100
Damage 30-70 OR 10-30
Abilitys Switch Stance(between melee and ranged)
Cost 200

Sounds like it has potential. Could be very tactical. It's a simple plan, but so were Pac-Man and Pong and Chess. Simple games are so often some of the best. *is getting madly addicted to Go right now* Anyway, I think it's a great idea and you should definitely go ahead with it! I voted 4/5 just because I'm not sold on whether the implementation would work out, but it definitely needs to be made.

Furthermore, I agree that having improved armor is a good deal,t hough there might should be a little bit of an HP increase as well. You know, training begets more stamina and all. On the other hand, HP is nice and easy to understand and easy to balance and program... but don't let that stop you from shooting for the stars!

trolllllsssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! maybe make them mercs...do something but implement as many trolls as possible. trolls own the world.
plus i was the first one to vote and comment. i think that makes me special. meaning i should be top priority in the making happy line. :D right?

Creeps(including trolls) will make up the avalable attackers You will be able to build their camps to train them as attackers.
Examples

Gnolls
Trolls
Spiders, yup I said spiders
Mercs(bandit type units)
Wendigo
Furbolgs

that might be all I do but well see.

Do I even have to say it?! Pandaren are a must, aren't they? ;)

...OK, OK, so it's just my personal preference for subtle, non-overblown Pandaren jokes, but just throwing one Panda in might not hurt. Just don't get obsessive, it's overdone.

Other than the comedic, how about something other-planarly like one of those demon units? I see no spell-casters in there, maybe you can work spellcasters in as a third group of units somehow and make them "other-worldly." Since we have attack and defense, maybe spellcasters have some other kind of effect on the playing field?

Errr how can you have a unit class other than attacker/defender?

I cant do much more than autocast spellcasters (bloodlust, heal ect...) because the attackers are not controlled by the players, only thier routes are.

as for demons, hmm I was thinking that these creeps were part of your army because they were hired/enslaved. Do you want to try to enslave a demon? Tosses Lost Litch a knife. Hmm you might have a more pleasent job falling on that

Pandas, hmm maybea a secret unit... hehehe

EARTH
STORM
FIRE
Hear My Call!

Go pandas!!!

PS: who else voted 5/5? COME HERE BUDDY OLD PAL!

Yes, exactly... autocasting things like bloodlusts, shields, healing... That's exactly what I had in mind. But you can take it or leave it, I don't care. It might be making things too complicated and hard to balance.

As for the pandas... I'll be looking. ;)

I gave it a 3/5. It has great potential, but you'll have to work a lot on balance.

Also try to spell properly when making the map, it looks at least twice as professional if you don't use words like 'balista', 'abilitys' and 'maybea'.

All in all, it could probably be a 4.5/5 if executed properly.

uhhh, dude that is how you spell balista...

Any1 here have any suggestions for my gate problem(attackers ignore it and run at the wall when shot at.(yes it is a player unit)

Well, since the units in question are completely under computer control anyway, I see no problem with the suggestion mentioned in the other thread dedicated to this gate-attacking topic about using an area around the gate and ordering the units to attack the gate once they get close. Or perhaps a custom AI for controlling the auto-attacking units could help out here?

As for the siege unit whose spelling has been brought into question, it is actually spelled ballista (with two L's, not one) or if you have lots of them, ballistae. (though I doubt anyone will bat an eye if you just say ballistas instead)

Hunter0000
is it 2 L's?

wow, ive been spelling it wrong for a long time, thx:D

Hmm that method might work, but it might not, il check it out.
