Fade filters

How do I fade in to a filter? I have a black screen, which is a filter of black mask, with no transparency. I want to fade into a slightly transparent filter, so it looks like it's dark. How would I do this?

Do white mask, and color is 0/0/0. Then make transparency > 0

What? Won't that just make a blank screen?

No, I mean i'm already at a fade filter, but I need to fade directly into another filter, instead of going back to no filter before I can go to the new filter.

Thats where the trigger "advanced filter" (or summing like that) comes in. I havent used that one too many times, but you need to do some sort of blending type. Experiment the different types under the "blending type" field untill it works.
