Whats the trick to skinning? You obviously don't place the pixels individualy because

A. It would take forever

B. It would look like crap

So how do you do it?

Well if you don't have dodge and burn tools try shading some other way...

Try using the paintbrush at 10% opacity and 0 hardness. If you have less time try it with about 30% opacity.

If you want to skin well, you have to get an advanced graphics program. Hate to break it to you, but unless you have mad skillz and a LOT of patience, MSPaint just isn't going to cut it. There are many free advanced graphics programs out there, but the two best are undisputedly Paintshop Pro and PhotoShop.

When I skin (using PSP), I use the airbrush tool at very low (think 2, or 4) opacity and the smudge tool, primarily. Freehand line with antialias can be handy for cleaning up edges, and the soften tool can be good for.. err.. softening things. There are a variety of methods for skinning. Some people prefer to paint directly onto an image, one layer (like you would paint a picture), but most veteran skinners will agree that layered images make things easiest. To layer an image, you must create a shading layer in greyscale, and then one or more color layers to apply to the shading. This allows you to quickly make changes to colors and experiment to your heart's content without having to reshade for every change you make. That gets messy. Trust me.

No, it is not a WC3 site, but the general premises for skinning hold true between almost all games. There are some great advanced tips and general tutorials here.

Good luck with skinning.

use dodge and burn, smudging, using different %'s and also many layers to give it that "special" look.

LOL!!! your using paint? holy crap man that would take days!

So you say use the greyscale command in PSP, make everything gray, and then add color where i want to? i use just the paint brush tool and the draw line command at small sizes over the colors that are already there. If thats called "re color or CnP" well then thats too damn bad if you dont like it :thrust:

If you want PSP7 just get it off KAZZZER (but i didnt say that and you didnt read it:D ) WARNING: Before opening ANYTHING off KAZZER, use a virus scan software, because i usually find some, and itll just delete the virus and you can use the file.

Also question for those who used Adobe Photo and PSP: Which one is easier/better, or are they both the same? Nevermind ill just make that a poll:ggani:

@ my best buddy Halogen Lightbulb: Why are your letters so shiny, is that something from the store

@ Kavu: Dont post about downloading MAPS in the SKINNING area. Do that in like, general discussion or something :thrust:
