3d flat planes?

is this possible: make a unit:a flat plane.

then animatate the skin only, and make it so that the plane only faces in one direction, so its like 2d art in a 3d game engine.

Yes..you could. The Water Elemental has an animated skin, for example...it's just an odd idea I suppose.

You animate skins using replaceable textures. Basicaly you have one texture for one frame of animation, and another for the next. Then you have the model switch between the textures. Unfortuanatly thats all I know. Try the skinning forum and see if they have anything more.

yeah thats a stuff used fr exemple at the end of the archer's bow thats not a sphere but a ... plane that always faces camera...
