I'm starting out as a map maker, and I got this great idea, me and my friend are working on it. But one problem arose almost instantly. I made a new spell with the FT abilities editor, seems nothing hard right? Then I found a pic of the haste icon from wc2, made it into a wc3 button in photoshop, converted it to .blp..... and found out that it doesn't work. When I import the art file as the "art-icon" in the abilities editor, and then test my map, my hero doesn't have anything showing up and when I click on the skill it becomes a green square.... it sucks Anyone help me out I feel like a n00b |

I suggest including the map or a scraped down version of the map which only has the hero, the ability, and the icon. Also what doesn't work? Does the spell not show the effect properly? Does it not cast? Does the icon appear as some strange bearded dude? To be more effective you need to provide us with some idea of what your saying... |

sorry right now I basically made an empty map with a blademaster with an edited wind walk where the only difference is that the icon for whirlwind is supposed to be looking like the haste icon from wc2 that I made. Now the thing is, I try to use the file import to get the .blp file in, right. And then I go the object editor, I edit the icon image file to the imported one, but it doesn't work. It doesn't think it's an icon file.... When I test them, it works in every way as wind walk except that when u get the skill, the icon is invisible. Then if I click on that space, it turns into a green square. It casts, the bm becomes invisible and ****, but the icon doesn't work. That is my concern. |

I think you're problem is that the icon is missing an Alpha channel. For icons the Alpha channel is completely useless, but all 2D art in Warcraft 3 must have an Alpha channel. If you add one in Photoshop then it should work fine. Also, make sure the icon is the right size, although a missing Alpha channel seems more likely. It happened to me a couple of times until I realized my mistake. |

The green square indicates you didn't make a Disabled version of the button... Make one and import it as ReplaceableTextures\CommandButtonsDisabled\DIS[yourbuttonnamehere.blp] As for the button being invisible.... eek. Are you sure it's the right size, shape and color depth? (EDIT) I agree about the alpha channel, I bet that's it. |

Ok mhem my photoshop experience lacks channels.... prepare for another n00b question: how do I use em? I made an alpha channel and all, but that's about as far as I got =/ |

You shouldn't need to do anything with the Alpha channel once it is created. If you do its more likely to mess up the icon than help. |

THANX GUYS it took us like 30 minutes to figure it out by comparing to bliz's pics, but I did it!!!!!!!!!!! so thnx... I can live happily now but I think I will ask more questions later on. PS: For the people who had the same problem, try loading bliz's icon and duplicate the alpha channel from them with same chanel options.. |
