New to Skinning

Hi, I'm new to skinning and would like to know what would be an easy first skin to try and do. I'm not too fussed if it's very basic as I just want to get to grips with the basics of creating new textures and surfaces. Also would it be best to model my own unit or use a pre-existing one?

IDISacredIDI	Sorry about the piccie, was going to use it as my avatar till i found out its a whooping 700!!points. Oh and the villager skins look nice and easy to edit, maybe you should try one of them.
