Magic Resistences

For my RPG, im having different races of characters. And each race has its own special bonuses and umm... non-bonuses (oh right) Weaknesses

I want some races to be resistent to magic

Now since i was planning on spells being mostly trigger spells anyways i had it planned out like this:

Event: Spell cast
Conditions: Spell is equal to "so-and-so" level #
Actions: If\Then\Else all the way down
If unit is = race then deal 90 dmg else do 90 dmg
If unit is = race2 then deal 100 dmg else do 100 dmg

something to that effect for each unit. (alot of CnP)

Would this work?

yea it shuld work, i might have to u ste...ummm borrow ur idea :) for my map...if it dosent work i wuldnt have any idea y it seems correct i think u have to do something like spell is cast, players unit is targeted, if/then/else stuff though

i really dont care if you steal "my idea" im sure it was thought of before, maybe the thread was just deleted, or something =/

i just hope it works, i got to get these lil questions out of the way so i can start up a good rpg (for once)

Right now, I'm using a Magic Resistence style ability based on the Runed Bracers. It seems to be working great, although you have to do a little trigger work to make it function as a hero spell.

I like how i got my thing set up though, all i need to know is if it would work for any and all situations. If it does then ill just use my method, because it makes me feel better if i do something with little or no help, and use my own ideas :D

all i want to know is if my system would work. I can deal with alot of CnP my triggers. I can't deal with all this programming jibberish =/
