So, yet again, I was think of neat things to do with WC3. So, I thought about it for a while, and I think I've come up with something new and fun to do. See, most of WarCraft 3 is stationary. You make your buildings (which don't move), you find stationary resources, and you fight for territory. But, I find myself thinking about the Njords from Age of Mythology. See, the Njords were designed to be a mobile race. Their basic soldiers are their basic workers. Their gold and lumber depositing stations are mobile. So, I got to thinking, why not do something similar in WarCraft? The way I see it is, you'd start on a little island in the middle of the ocean. There, you'd harvest your resources for a while, but the resources run out quickly. So, you pack up everything (buildings included), put them on your boats, and sail the sea. For a while the journey is easy, but sea creatures and monstrosities attack those who wander too far. Eventually, the journeymen must find a place for safe harbor, where they can claim new resources. So, you'd find another island, or maybe a continent, and you'd unload everything and you'd start trekking around inland. Eventually you'd stumble upon a gold mine, or another suitable place to stop for a bit. There you'd harvest resources but, you'd be forced to move not after long. You'd bump into creeps and dangers along the way. But, eventually you might get to the point where you'd settle down. I'm not quite sure how you'd make a map out of this, but I'd be content to waste a couple hours exploring with my guys. Please give comments and feedback. I'm trying to gather people who're interested in making something. |

Hm. An interesting idea. I have no idea how it would work gameplay-wise, but the concept is intruiging. I have no idea if it's possible to have units have town hall/lumber mill-abilities, but if so that would be kinda cool. The other obvious solution would be to utilise Ancients ability to morph from buildings to units. Do some fiddling and se how it turns out, I'd be interested in seeing the results.. :) |

Heh, Night Elves alreadu have a mobile base. But your concept lacks... enemies. It sounds like A Sim, rather than a Wargame. |

WhiteHorn - I would not consider the Night Elves as mobile as the Njords. See, in Age of Mythology, the Njords had Ox-Carts that served as return points for harvested resources. Ox-Carts could move only a little slower than your infantry. From a resource standpoint, you didn't even need your town hall, which would be something new and interesting to try (especially for a blizzard RTS). I would do some testing with unit editing and triggering to see if it could be done, but, unfortunately my computer burned up, and I'm using campus computers (which won't let me install WarCraft 3). But, I think you could make a unit a drop off point for resources. I really like the idea of making mobile buildings. If you've ever played Age of Empires 2, the Trebuchet, the mobile heavy catapult, would be a good example of a mobile building. As for who you'd fight... well... it usually ends up being the natives of wherever you're exploring. But, there'd also be monsters too. For example, when you're sailing on the ocean you might randomly bump into a Leviathan or a Kracken and you'd have to think quickly to get out of the situation. You might also have to fight other mobile explorers. Or, maybe there's a stationary settlement that you'd have to combat. |
