Comprising a set of plugins for Discreet®'s 3ds max®, these tools allow advanced users to create, modify, and quickly preview models and animations, including particle and ribbon effects, that can be used in custom maps created with Warcraft III's World Editor. Please note that Blizzard does not directly support the Warcraft III Art Tools, and the technical support staff will not be able to respond to any related inquiries. A valid license for Discreet®'s 3ds max® 4.0 is required in order to use the Warcraft III Art Tools. We highly recommend that 3ds max® version 4.26 is used, with the service pack 1 fixes. Windows® 2000 or XP is suggested. Note: The Warcraft III Art Tools do not include a means for creating textures. To create textures, a paint program, such as Adobe®'s Photoshop®, is required. We have mirrored the file here: http://www.wc3campaigns.com/WarcraftIIIArtTools.zip Also, the plugins seem to work with later versions of 3dsmax. So far, I have tested it on r5, and it worked. |

Did you read my post? The answer is yes. Quote:
No, 3dsmax is a professional 3D modeling application. It costs about $3000. You can find more information at http://www.discreet.com if you are interested in purchasing it. |

That's great! Since I've got $3000 laying around I think I'll go get it! So did you guys that have it actually pay that much for it? |

Making the art tools for anything other than 3dsmax would be a total waste of time and money for Blizzard. 3dsmax is a very high end piece of software, and its what they used to make the models, animations and effects in war3. To complain about not being able to afford a $3000 program is silly. Thats the tools they used to create the artwork for War3 and if you've never heard of 3dsmax before now, then you definately don't have the skills to use these tools in the first place. I think its great the Blizzard did this (they should have done it a long time ago). Now war3 can be modded to its fullest potential. |
