3dsmax 4.26 - hates me...

I managed to find the 3dsmax 4 copy listed on the Blizzard forum using demonic means. But after upgrading to 4.26 and installing the art tools all I get is this, even before installing the tools... Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

I use GeForce2 on a 1028/768. I got it working on a 800/600 once, but not anymore.

And can anyone kindly point me to some tutorials on making organic models?

Very sorry. I forgot to add the screen shot.

That doesn't look too good. Exactly how did you get this? Maybe the download got screwed up, you should try redownloading it. If that doesn't work then you should probably try a legibal way of getting it. What is 4.26? I have version 4.2, were do you get the extra 6 from? Also, the art tools work perfectly with 4.2, you don't need 4.26, it's just recommended.

It has been like that from the first install of 4. And the brown stuff in the picture is actually the WoW map I use as my wallpaper.

have you tried re-installing it? That might work.

Yes. I tried it trice. I'm looking for a new source though, and if I still get that with a different download then I might just stick to skinning the units.

Speaking of units... They use mdl right? How different are they from the NWN mdl and/or other games that use mdl? I've seen a great number of mdl exporters for NWN, but I suppose they're incompatible with the TFT mdl.

Actually, this may be easier to fix than that. When I first started 3DS Max, I was startled to find the Warcraft III UI plastered across my screen! But it has to do with Max not properly clearing the viewports' graphic memory when you start up. Just resize the viewports by clicking and dragging on the spot where their borders cross and it should clear up nicely.

For reference, 4.2 has a service pack that upgrades it to either 4.2.5 or 4.2.6. 4.2.5 is 3DS Max with the service pack installed to fix some things. 4.2.6 is the same but it includes upgraded DLLs that take advantage of advanced instructions on Pentium CPUs like SSE and MMX. When you download the Service Pack from Discreet and install it, it will ask you if you want to install the Pentium DLLs, which you should do if you have a recent Pentium chip (Pentium 2 or newer) but not if you have anything else.

Also, MDL is just a common extension for model files because it's the word "model" with all the vowels removed. (MoDeL) There is no compatibility between NWN and WC3, I'm afraid.
