Righto, thought I'd throw out my campaign idea out to have all of you people gleefully pick it apart :) A lot of raw thoughts here, so feel free to help me refine them. The Kingdom of the Three Views, is another name for that race which the Alliance knew as the Gnomes. First, a little bit on Gnomish society: The Kingdom's way is primarily dictated by the three ruling classes: the Polymaths, the Afflatites, and the Dichots. Polymaths: Those of the Upward View Polymaths are the gnomes which most commonly interacted with the Alliance. Polymaths operate on the belief of Knowledge for Knowledge's sake. They believe Life itself is a primal mechanism which can and should be altered and changed to benefit the Kingdom. Somewhat eccentric, and generally good-natured, the Polymaths are also the ambassadors of the Kingdom dictating international policy. They are directed by the Philomath and reside within the underground gardens of the kingdom. Afflatites: Those of the Lower View Although Polymaths manned the machines above-ground during the War of the Dark Portal, the Afflatites were the ones who constructed the automatons. Afflatites feel Knowledge's primary purpose is to be directed towards creation of greater constructs. Generally dour and serious individuals, they believe the Kingdom should cut off all ties with the above world and retreat further into the depths (which often puts them into conflict with the Polymaths). They reside within the laboratorie and libraries of the Kingdom, watched over by the Chief Afflatite. Dichots: Those of the Sight The Dichots are judges, policemen, witnesses, and soldiers. Their duty is to keep peace within the kingdom through laws, punishment, and acting as diplomats between the Afflatites and Polymaths. Knowledge, to them, should be used to ensure Balance in all things. Dichots have all different types of personalities, but attempt at all times to not allow motion to cloud their judgement. In times of war near the Kingdom, the Dichots are the first to march forth into battle and the last to return. Although all 3 classes are meant to be equal, the Dichots are generally the most respected for maintaining the careful balance of the Kingdom. They inhabit the Dichotic Courts ruled over by the One Dichot, who is in a fashion, the Lord of the entire kingdom. Basic idea of the campaign centers around Ryvena, a gnomish woman who is attempting the Choice, a test of abilities to discover if she will be accepted into the ranks of the Polymaths or Afflatites. After a set of tests, she makes a choice as to which group to join. (One cannot choose to join the Dichots, the Dichots specifically choose individuals for this) From there she must then proceed to advance in the ranks to save the Kingdom from the forces which assail it. The harvests grow leaner every year, and reports from the surface tell of a plague which grows across the human land (time setting, Human Campaign in Warcraft). The Deep Ones assail the Kingdom and internal fights threaten to tear the it apart. Hopefully featured will be the Gnomish Kingdom to explore, a variety of characters with a bit of depth and complexity to their characters, a few decisions which aren't of the, "Should I kill him this way, or should I kill him that way?", two broad paths to take (Afflatite or Polymath) as well as perhaps a hidden chance to join the Dichots, Afflatite Automaton Construction, Polymath Diplomacy, Encounters with the 'Deep Ones,' and a few normal missions of constructing bases using the Gnomish tech tree. Basically I wanted to make something a bit less RTS and more RPG with actual choices you can make which effect events. I wanted to create an actual culture with an interesting story and motives behind them. oh, and here's a little tech tree: Earthbreach (main town hall) - Afflatite Students Tower of Insight (1st tier) Tower of Inspiration (2nd tier) Tower of Transcendance (3rd tier) Gnomish Observatory (farms capable of veerrrrry slow movement and minor attacks [early defense]) Gnomish Cube Ward - Tower Defense Dichotic Court - Builds Sub-Dichots, Gnomish Chemists, and Gnomish Disc Wards Hall of Teaching - Builds Polymaths and Gnomish Physicists Mine Shaft - Builds Afflatite Students and Afflatite Professors University of the Sciences - Research, and builds Trojan Engines and Geode Projects Well of Thought - Heros, Philomath, Dichot, and Chief Afflatite Astral Observatory - exhudes an aura of energy into nearby units Afflatite Student - Basic Worker Afflatite Professor - Worker who has a decent attack and can build some of the advanced structures Sub-Dichots - Stronger melee unit capable of inspiring the spirits of those around him Gnomish Chemists - Plague Cloud and Poisonous attacks Gnomish Disc Ward - a UFO of sorts, flying unit for anti-air Polymaths - Spell-caster who specializes in screwing up enemy body systems while aiding allies Physicists - Gnomes who've have grasped the laws of the universe, they have actually become slightly apart from it. They twist reality in fun ways Trojan Engine - Siege Weapon which also is an armored transport Project Geode - Powerful Air Unit Philomath - Wonderful at sneak-attacking and quick strikes. When powerful enough, can use persuasion to get enemies to switch sides. Chief Afflatite - Weak physically, but resides primarily on a system of automatons. After enough study he can call in a strike of aerial units. Dichot - Fast, Strong, and Swift. Is mostly able to inspire his comrades and even the playing field pretty easily. blah :) So any comments? I'm open to anything constructive. |
