Lately I've been working on a mini-campaign idea for TFT. I can do the heroes, antagonists, and story, but I am having a hard time building ambiance for towns and such where there is no combat. Could anyone give me some ideas? Thanks, EnetheruAnuon |

Aye, I'm a little confused as well... do you mean Quests the player can be set to accomplish in towns, without combat? |

Ambience is how well the environment works. An ambient town is a bustling town that seems real, not stale. I suggest you have village people doing things instead of just standing there. Have people walking around, peasants chopping trees. Maybe some dialogue between villagers. People should be walking in fields, not sitting there doing nothing, maybe leading a packhorse, etc. |

I would suggest giving them the wander ability. And having a trigger whereas if they leave town, to return to it. Ambient sound effects would be nice as well. For example, building select sounds can easily be turned into ambient sounds. The blacksmith can be used for hammering sounds, the sawmill for a building in the forest, ect. Have special characters. Seeing "Villager" over and over is boring, have some variety amoung the people. Add in Critters, most notably farm animals such as dogs, pigs, and sheep. Maybe have a hermit on the edge of town that wants you to get something of his back? A woman who has lost her child? Thieves robbing the caravans? Also, have the people inside of the town react to the time of day. There should be crickets chirping at night, torches lit up (use animation actions to play doodad animations), I could keep going on and on, but these are some very basic and common things. Keep up the good work! |

Make sure to set all pets vulnerable, so that players can go on a killin' spree as soon as they hit town. Nothing's more satisfying to a gang of adventurers than murdering every livestock and valued family pet in mile radius. Also, keep in mind that ye olde medieval town isn't JUST going to be all Tudor style houses and a blacksmith. There should be croplands around the town, and a few cottages sprinkled here and there. People might even cart themselves in during the day to sell off produce, and then go home in the evening to work around the farm, so not all NPCs should always be hanging out in town. |

Good idea. I wouldn't have thought of that myself. I was mostly using the Blizz ambiance sounds. I can't wait to see how these ideas work. Thanks, all for giving me a hand. :D |
