Simple question: Do the new art tools support 3DS MAX v5 and the Character Studio plugin? |

I'm running max5 with character studio and art tools, however I haven't really worked heavily with any of the tools. It does start and function quite seamlessly though. |

My primary concern is the ability to use the Character Studio biped for animation purposes. |

If you read the pdf file that comes with the tools it says that the tools doesn't support character studio or invert kinematic, the only solution is to use basic bone or any other object that you would name "bone xxx" (xxx being any name). You also need to change every controller to linear or TCB because it doesn't support bezier controller if you don't do that then it wont animate. Hope I answered your question. |

Yep. Sadly that answered it. Oh well. |

But you know it's not such a big deal, you don't really need it to make great animation if you follow the few rules ... And the great thing about that plug-in is that you don't need to skin your model just cut it in pieces and let the game do the rest! If you don't know how to use maxscript i can tell you how to make a simple script that changes all the bone to linear controller.... |

Sorry, but I have to disagree. Character Studio is vastly superior to standard bones when animating. (Especially since we can't use IK.) The fact that it's not supported is a major drawback. The other major benefit of CS is the reusability of animations. I don't have to reanimate a walk cycle for every model I build, I can just load the same sequence onto every mesh. I can also give animations I've built to other modelers on my team so they don't have to reinvent the wheel. Hopefullly Snips hasn't terminated his work on the CS compatible exporter. |
