Newbie herassment, and making fun of homosexuals

Just stop, seriously.

Its like calling somebody gay, its cliched. It has no meaning any more. Do you really know the guys a newbie? Or maybe he doesn't spend 24 hours in front of a computer screen living and breathing war3. I'm sick of seeing people justify thier bellitment, and patronization of others by calling them newbies or a variant of this word.

You were all novices, once; give the other guy a break. Don't assume that you know better. I'd love to argue with you, if you disagree.

Also for those of you calling every other thing gay, its time you stop, too. Do you know any gay people? What are you some kind of homophobe?

How can an ability be gay? Does it have sex with abilities of the same type? And how exactly are maps gay? Do they like fornicating with the same genre?

The word your looking for is uncool. I'm not sure how gay became the polar opposite of cool; but its quite offensive. They say that homophobic individuals are more likely to become homosexuals. I'm not homosexual, and I have no problem with them, I can almost be gaurenteed that most of you have no genuine dislike of homosexuals.

I think if you can grow up and act the age of maybe your shoesize we can have some insightful disccusions. Rather than an e-pissing contest with whoever can butcher the english language fasted, with the most derogitory terms used out of context as possible.

EDIT: THIS POST IS IN THE RIGHT FORUM, SADLY, OFFTOPIC IS FAR MORE CIVIL.

Good post, I agree. These words are being used to the point, where they are useless. People really don't have any idea why they are saying them, just cos everyone else does, and it's 1337...well, it isn't.

Grow up people

Ive personally never called anybody a noob, and i don't intend to. Some people really do take it way too far though.

What to do instead is give them general hints in what to do, but leave it fairly open for them to interpret what you say how they want. The reason to do this is because you might think that you are the best, any what you say is the absolute best way to do something, but that assumption is always wrong, there is always more than one way to do things, and you way might be the worst way or the person to do it.

As for the whole gay thing, i do know some gay people. I literally don't care because i am in no way homophobic, but some people are. But i think that people using the word gay in the way that people do things is just wrong, they don't even realize that they are offending multiple people with it. Use that large vocabulary of yours and come up with something a little more creative.

Couldn't have said it better.

Though I see much less occurances of what you mention here, than places like.. live Bnet for instance ;)

I'm just stating what I see. I'm not pointing fingers. Anyway as far as the patronizing is disgusting. Somebody had problem with a trigger and somebody was babying him through it, with each line interjecting a derogitory term.

And remember everyones faviorite braggant: Thebestofthebest? HES FUCKING BANNED. You wanna join him?

Lol

weaaddar you seem xtra pissed off today

jk

anyways, the only time I think its acceptable to call someone a newb or whatever in any sort of yelling way is when you specificly ask for expericied people to play with, ask before you start the game, yet when you play the guy suddenlly annouces he has no idea how to play, because thats just plain being an *** on hiss part. Otherwise I completely agree.

Yeah thebestofdabest, wow im still mad at him P:

That really is a bad example.

I mean I understand where your coming from, but I'm talking about map devolopment discussions.
Some of the threads turn into things which look like this:

Guy asks question: "Hey how do I do XX & YY?"
Immature kid replies" OMG N00BZ0R!! XX is 1337 easy, and YY is gay so forget it, n00b. Do ZZ"
Guy asks question: "WHAT THE BLUE HELL DID YOU JUST SAY?"
Immature kid2 replies "STUPID n00b, I pwn'd j00, you do ZZ, QQ, RR, & FF"
Level headed guy: Um, you are all wrong. Here is a fully explained answer.
Immature Kid3 replies: ****ING n00b stupid n00b un1337.
Immature kid4 replies: Leveled headed guy g0t pwned!
Level headed guy edits his post to say "**** off idiots"
Guy asking question: Um how do I do XX & YY?"

Maybe people are viewing the forum with a filter to get rid of blatent stupidity...

No, I was saying thats the only time I see it as acceptable, mean I don;t find it to be ever acceptable on this forum. Thats what I was getting at.

Thats a good point. People do take it too far, there are just time when you have to say it. Like when a guy you know is good (by looking at stats) and they do something stupid to screw you.

See title. You make excellent points; n00b and FAG0T are probably the most giveaway declarations of user stupidity. But what exactly is this in reference to? Has this been going on here, in this forum?

The only time I'd ever call somebody a derogatory term like "noob" is either...

A.) I'm joking and they know it.
B.) The person on the other end is either extremely immature or fails to actually do what I ask him to do.

It's sad that lots of other people don't do the same.

maybe auto-replace the word "n00b" with "inexperienced person", etc. ?

calling other people noobs generally happens when the person is either new or stupid, usually both, and upon given a simple instruction fails mirably. For example "Buy the Crossbow" "WTF IS A CROSSBOW" "Omfg, noob, PISS OFF!" a conversation i had with somone this morning in a game i play often, he comes in says hes Uber 1337 (as soon as i saw this i figured what would happen) then asks how to play the game, the asshole got spammed so bad it was funny. In circumstances like these, everyone hates noobs, even as a noob i found myself hating other noobs who never tryed.

Hell i think i got a bit off topic here.. oh well. Dont call people noobs unless they deserve it.

I find this to be a excellent point. I do not like being called a newb or noob or however many ways it can be spelled, and I don't think no I am absolutely positive that anyone else does.

Calling someone or something "gay" is wrong, and I think it should stop in general but I can not say I have not used the word in this way and will probably not in RL, but while I am posting on these boards I will not use it in that way.

The fact of the matter is that people seem to never be able to get over calling someone names. One person will start then the next. If one person stops another will take their place.

As you can't ban someone for calling them a newb, that would be to harsh. To find a reasonable punishment would be great. Maybe something with the point system. I think there would be away using chat filters to subtract points every time someone types something like newb, or gay. If the subtraction of points is on valid statement like "I am a noob, so please don't flame" this is not aimed towards anyone so have them PM the mod of the forum and discuss it and add or subtract points to there digression (right word?).
