I made an RP Map, 2 Actually, (Age of Darkness, Age of Light) and just a few minutes ago, the power flashed. Harmless enough, right? No. My computer got some retarded error that FORCED me to re-format my entire system, losing ALL of my files, and the only map version I passed to my friends was a protected one. Now, I can not get into my map to update anymore, forcing me to completely Re-Do EVERYTHING, All the work I put into it. I was wondering if someone could maybe PM me a way to unprotect my map, so that I can get back into it (PM so that some noob doesn't wander by and say "Hey! Lets go turn Skibi's into Skibimaul version 34.5349754985!!". Is there a way? I reaaaaaaly don't want to re-do all the work that I put into my map. Please help. -Thanks, Lunchbox. |

Might be worth checking "LastCreatedMap" to see if it's a recent version. |

Uhm, what program did u use to lock your map ? I'm sad to say, that you might just be very screwed :P I don't know how to unlock maps, even if I did, I don't think I would pass on that info... It's nothing personal, but we can't really be sure u made thoes maps, or even if ur going to use your newfound knowledge for opening others... Only way out: Remake the whole thing, and start making backups!... Ohh, one line I just noticed...wich makes me think ur not really telling the truth (again, nothing personal, just a note for you) Quote:
In reality..if it was a few minutes ago...you wouldn't really write here? (then again! U can have two comps...so :)) |

It wasn't really a few minutes ago, I had to re-install my internet and all this bullshit, the first thing I did though was post this so that by the time I was done re-installing WC3 etc. I would have an answer. I used Heavylocker ? :\ LOWEST level protection also.. is there a way around that? |

Ah...didn't see you had to re-format. |

Maybe try contacting blackdick (think that is his name), he might be able to help you out...since he made the program.. But as far as I know, no there isn't... |

If you used heavy locker you are really screwed, unless you can edit everything in jass (even unit-doodad placement) I have a backup of my map uploaded to a certain web site, just in case. Also consider that you could copy your map to a floppy disc before reformatting. |

Yeah, your screwed. I put my map on a floppy disk, a zip disk, a website, and it was on another computer before. I also have a surge protector/backup power supply (thats a good thing to invest in for when the power flickers). |

don't publish the maps until u'r ready to go :) and, this is probably a stupid thing to say, don't lock u'r maps :) i never lock mine, but i've published 2-3, and got tons of maps that i'll never finish :) most of the time i get to "beta 0.8, then beta 0.9" and when i get to alpha 1.1 i just stop doing it, and it sits in the "scenarios" folder :))) anywayz, i released a couple of maps on bnet, and no-one seems to have edited it...but just to be sure, i've got a trigger to check if it's been edited :) |

That sucks. There's really nothing you can do, unless you're some sort of expert at decompression and can unlock the map, and can redo everything... but I doubt that, so yeah... But why did you protect it before you published it? |
| 11-18-2003, 02:06 AM | #12 |
He prolly protected it cuz he was giving it to a friend and he didnt want his friend acidentlly spreading it. |

that sucks the donkeys nuts doesnt it... about the not protecting, he didnt want shitheads taking his maps and making it all "1337" or as normal people would say. "****ing it up" i think more maps should be protected because there are tons of edits of pre shitty maps, i dont get why these mindless people play all this bullshit thats thrown at them, im sure there are some great maps out there, i wish i could find them amongst the loads of bullshit |

I´m sorry, but HeavyLocker does not save a "backup" file inside the protected maps as password-protected maps by ExtProtect have. The protected backup created by ExtProtect is encrypted and it can´t be reversed. HeavyLocker could also use the same algorythm used by ExtProtect to protect the backups, but I decided not to do so. The reason is simple: My concearn was not the encryption system used, as it is one of the best in the world. The real problem is the map file size. Having backups inside the maps increase it´s size, and one of the best HL features is to reduce map size. This way I decided not to have backups inside the maps. |
