...what's good about Open RPGs? I've played a few of them (mostly accidentally), and I really don't see the point. You can spawn stuff and put it in places, then look at it and go "oooh", and that's it. Out of boredom I attacked the guy spawning stuff near me, and someone bans me.

What's the allure? There must be something I'm missing.

That is pretty much all that they are. They are pointless, most of them. Real RPGers might actually make a city, or quests but that's uncommon.. I've tried to do that in a few open RPG games and I get slaughtered by the other guys lvl 30 heroes because they just wanted to make buff heroes and then they got bored waiting for me to do something constructive (never fails).

Legends is really good though, you should try it. It's not like most other open RPGs because you can only level your hero by killing, and everyone has a pretty fair chance to get high level and enjoy the game most of the way through, you can choose to build things or not at the beginning, with pros and cons to each choice. If you pick the Lich you can dominate the game because D&D can literally put a player out of the game in 20 seconds or so ;)
