Mechalisk (WIP)

This is pretty much a final version of my mechalisk. I plan to spend maybe 1-3 hours adding better details(since the hydralisk wrap is sort of confusing as to where everything leads)... unless I get rave reviews which is doubtful :P

This is my second skin, and it is also done without shading. For some reason the retouch tool is greyed out so I cannot use it. I had to compensate with manual shading :P. Took me roughly 4-5 hours doing this. Enjoy

U got to be kidding....

Anyways..try removing the brown..as it looks really wierd. To me, this just looks like another recolor, but it's your second skin, so that isn't a bad thing.

For starting skins AVOID AT ALL COSTS THESE MODELS:

Abomination,
Hydralisk,
Felguard,
ect.
EDIT: Ghoul also

They tend to be much more difficult, I agree with Zach on this (and frankly, it looks like a clown). Btw, even Wolverine had a tough time skinning the hydra and he's like the new KDE on teh block.

Anyway, nice try, but I think your overshooting just a little bit with the hydralisk model. (IMO hardest model to skin second only to abomination).

yeah this skin was a lot harder to work on then my first.

every skin that doesn't use alphaing is technically a recolor. I've done some new designs on the skull mainly.

I thought the top part was shaded already. I'll have that, as well as the arms and tail finished probably.

Lol, the hydralisk was one of easiest things for me to skin... Compared to a marine or something lol.

Recolor is defined by either changing the colors of parts, or painting directly over the parts, with a different color (like muscles and faces) Non recolors, are when you cover a part in the base color, and build the texture from that.

Try skinning a less difficult model, like the Villager or Blademaster. These are pretty easy skins as their wrapping aren't as fubar as most :P

Gl with ur skinning :) Bet u have potential though ;)

i think as it is w.i.p. it looks really good ! (:foot: ) if you change whats left of the original hydra and turn it all to the blue stuff it'd rock !! (actually i can't see how you 1. can call this a recolor, 2. all tell him to try a different model ? )

looks cool. Manual shading ? poor you, must have taken ages.

I don't exactly agree The-Fan on the hydralisk. If u take a look at the model, its really easy to see whats what, besides ther are like 3 pieces of things on the unwrap, which makes it easier to evaluate. The wrapping is another discussion, but the unwrap is not confusing 8in my opnion)

the wrapping for the arms is a bit confusing as I really got confused as to where the upper arm is and where the "projectile launcher" is at. The arm was a mess up but it looks cool nonetheless. :D This model was a big step up from the dh but I enjoy the challenge. You will see this skin on a big map soon

I will:

fix rest of arms
tail
most of the head.

If anyone is familiar with the mtg storyline, what I've basically tried to do is "phyrexianize" the hydralisk. I plan on leaving parts of it organic as well. I idolize Yawgmoth :lich:

anything else to add?

A recolor is when you use the hue/saturation tool or color balance or paint over the original with a solid color with low opacity to tint it a different color, thus putting minimal effort in yourself. I believe you are mistaken, Zachary.

Yes, the Hydralisk does suck to skin on.
