I have three files I want to modifiy, and import into my map: *AbilityFunc.txt *AbilityString.txt UnitUI.slk I opened my w3m file up using WinMPQ (latest version), it gave me a list of all the files inside. I click add, select both textfiles, and give it a directory of "Units\", and then it crashes. :( Am I doing something wrong, or is there a better way to do it? I read a few posts about it, didn't really help much, the 'tutorial' says to use BlackDick's IMP- Generator, but then there are posts saying you can just use WinMPQ & a IMP generator isn't needed. Anyway, any advice? Thanks. |

Ok, I used MPQ2k to import the 3 files into my map, and it imported them. Of course something went wrong, however :). I modified three files: OrcAbilityStrings.txt OrcAbilityFunc.txt unitUI.slk All 3 files are in the Units\ directory in my w3m file. When I load up my map, however, nothing is changed :(. I reopened the w3m file in WinMPQ, and sure enough, those 3 files ARE there, in the Units\ directory, and are all modified correctly. Any suggestions/ideas? |

Another update. Here is exaclty what I'm trying to do: Rename Healing Wards to "Ancestral Guardian", and change the tooltip & description accordingly along with the Icon. So I changed both OrcAbility*.txt files to reflect my changes, changed the blp that the "Healing Ward" points to, to the Ancestral Gaurdian icon. Nothing worked :(. It remained "Healing Ward", with the Healing Ward Icon & description. When I replaced the /.../.../Healingward.blp with the Ancestral.blp file, by "overwriting" it in the w3m file, it worked. (So I added the Ancestral.blp as if it were the healing ward.blp, effectively replacing it). The icon was changed, but the two text files remained notworking, they were still called Healing Wards etc. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this might be? Every where I've looked says you can replace txt files in a w3m file, which is all I've done, but for some reason it isn't loading that information... or something? Any ideas? |

Guest | I've been having this problem testing out my own alterations. Unfortunatly, until I come up with a solution (if one exists), or someone tells me otherwise, the only recourse I have found is either to choose "Restart Mission" as soon as the map finishes loading, or load any one map before loading mine. It seems the game does not cache the files correctly. |

IMP files are useless now. Get winmpq 1.54 and the LATEST MPQControl, coz the old one had some troubles with .w3m files. |

Guest | I've modified HumanUpgradeFunc and HumanUpgradeStrings, and both Orc counterparts, and never had a problem with the upgrades not being modified after importing into units\ in my W3M. I've never loaded any map before playing my modified map. I'll be honest about one thing though: I don't believe I've ever made changes to those files between restarts of War 3. In other words, I think all my "sessions" testing my maps have been with one copy of the changed .txt files. This is because I usually do my file modifications (SLK and TXT) before I start playing around with the map. I've got a batch file I run each time I close the map in WE that imports all the files I've modified. Try making sure your modified map is the first map you play. Somebody else also mentioned once that if you're using a custom loading screen somethings might not work. Don't remember the details on that one. If you are (using a custom loading screen), try making it use the default loading screen and see if that doesn't clear up your problems. When I found out you can't have custom loading screens imbedded into your map (must be in the MPQ), I gave up on them anyway and put any text I wanted the players to see in triggers fired at the start of the map. Care. |

Guest | Actually, I've found I need to restart the mission or play one map to get my changed .txt files to take effect. I have always used the default load screen. What version of MPQ Compression are you using? I am still using the old "MPQ2k Beta" because I like its DOS interface. I am thinking of switching to WinMPQ to see if its any better. |
